let me say that i am not a recoil junky. i can stand up to a 444 marlin(tc encore) that is going 2000fps with a 280gr wfn with rel7 and a 45-70(handi-rifle) that goes around 1600fps with a 405gr fn boolit with a charge of h4198. its not a hot load, but neither is it a trail boss load.
i have been thinking about a lyman 515141 for a couple of weeks and black powder. since MGM doesn't make a 50-70 govt, i've been pondering(hey a new word!!!) between the 500 s&w and the 500 linebaugh(1 in 28" twist). the s&w doesn't do much for me, but the 500 L does. since i am still guessing on whether or not i will use the 500 L and the lyman 515141, i will see what everybody says.
it will be a tc encore in a 24+/-" full bull barrel( i have to go high plains gunstock for another forearm:-D) in 500 L. since i don't want to make myself black and blue with red stuff coming out, i'm guessing that something along the lines of unique or 2400 will be used. the velocity will be around 1100-1300fps, not near a 1500+fps does with a revolver. the 1100fps will be the bees knees with the 515141. it will be for whitetail and occasionally a black bear. i "think" it will be a 100-125 yards cartridge. it will also be a peep sight kinda gun. i'm still looking at a front sight.

the 500 L is a smokeless powder gun, although i "might" try black powder in it(ffg or ffffg).
