Can anyone point me towards the equivalent Lyman design or other mfg. for the Hensley & Gibbs #42 as shown below in 225 grains?

The Lyman 311284 looks close, but I am not an RKI on Lyman moulds.

I am looking to have one custom made and was hoping someone here could post an equivalent source or maybe a drawing so I would have a starting point.

#42 - .30-40 Krag. 225 grains at 1.225 length, 170 grains at .925 length. Gas check base, three round grease grooves, no driving band forward of front grease groove. Long round nose. "Regan, (170 grain) I" at 50 yards, November 29, 1941".

Send your dimensions and a bullet or two to Veral if you have them...I believe he will make anything you send him.

Best lyman mold for the krag is the #314299 which was origionally designed for the 303 british cartridge. Just a suggestion.Frank

.............The Lyman 311284 was one of the first 5 Lyman designs to be made with the newfangled copper GC's and the 311284 was created specificly FOR the 30-40 Krag. It was made so that Nat'l Guard units could practice to 600 yards. If I could make a change to the 311284 it would be to have one cut to drop a slug of .312" with WW alloy. My 1898 Krag infantry rifle really likes'em at .312" so I use the 314299.

My copy of the 311284 will barely drop at .310". Cast of enriched linotype (2% added tin) it will barely make .314" but shoots like a house afire. I really do not care to shoot away that alloy in this day and age.

Thanks Rick. Good info. My Krag slugs right at .3095. I've been using the Hensley & Gibbs #99 for some time, but have always wanted an excuse to buy a 311284 since I don't own one.

I assume that I can get the 311284 custom made by one of the custom makers?

I don't own the #42 mould shown in the photo, in a fit of ignorance and stupidity I let it go on eBay for far less than I was willing to pay. Sometimes I have to re-learn lessons I "learnt"years ago. If another comes up on eBay I am pulling out the big guns....:-D
