Just north of the lakes and we are down to 2-3 from 40+ last week. I do not think any will be here in 2-3 more days.

Have not seen as many this year?! Kids found one dead at our camp on Lake Winni, have never seen that? What is up here?

We are 25 miles inland from the coast. Lowest temp so far is mid 50's.
We keep 2 hummer feeders full at all times. Have seen only a few in the last week but seems that the herd is thinning - heading south for the winter!
Saw one on the phlox a couple of days ago but not for long.

Well, I have to chime in. I'm her a mile high in Arizona. My hummingbirds disappeared a few days ago. Usually here until mid October. I feel this is going to be a bad winter.

We are about a hundred miles south of you and must be getting yours on the way south. The last few days have been the busiest all summer which was pretty slow.

North of you my buddy said he saw one at camp last weekend. I expect them to be gone by now. Always one or 2 ruby throats in the summer although what they are doing miles deep in an arboreal forest has always made me wonder

Still have at least 2 of them the last few days but there had to be 40 or so fighting for the 12 spots available that are filled fresh every day. Southern Maine here, on the coast.

Well here in tx, they are still very active. At my mom's house, they gang up on all the sugar water feeders and it sounds like your in a swarm of bees. My mom loved to sit and watch em so she must have 6 feeders on the porch. It keeps her busy filling em all up lol.

I don't feed them so we don't see to many but one was at our back door yesterday, I'm in WNY and from what the farmers almanac it's going to be a good winter (I snowmobile so most would say that it's a bad year) lake Erie temp right now is 79*f . If it's a warm fall lake affect snow is going to pound us till the end of February. I just hope it's now 8ft in 3 days again

I usually have over half a doz all summer, but this year only two pairs. So far this morning there has only one at the feeder.
By lunch, they avoid fighting with the bees for food. I've killed out 4 huge nests of yellow jackets and now it's honey bees. Somewhere there is a treasure trove of honey.

I will tell you one odd thing ive never seen before. Our pond at camp has a pair of nesting loons. Been there since anyone can remember and our camp go's back 60 yrs with the one across from us way before that.

Loons will have a couple of chicks that will return with the parents the next year but when the new ones hatch thevyearlings are pushed out as loons are very territorial. This year when we got there we saw 6 loons. They were swimming around together too. Very odd

Just turned around and looked at the 3 feeders and we have two still here but they are spooky not like the birds we had all summer they must be transients.

My son found a dead bird on the lawn a week ago first one we have ever seen that way that had not hit the window at full speed.

Plenty of the little birds here in Cherry Valley. I watch them thru the window feeding on my wife's rose bushes. My neighbor has several feeders that keep them well fed.

I read in a coffee table book about humming birds many years ago that one should take down all feeders in September. If not, it may encourage them to hang around and possibly miss their free ride in the jet stream to Cost Rica and neighboring areas.

Thus, I take my feeders down. I rehang them in the Spring.

The summer green throats are gone and yesterday at least one with a Yellow throat band, hung around for a long time, visiting the feeder ever few minutes.
It's amazing how when they are plentiful, they observe a feeding order. Patiently waiting in order, to approach the feeders only when the bosses are finished.
I wish people would show that much of respect.

We have had 1 or 2 a day little guys and spooky. They are the flight birds not our natives will keep the feeders out for all the stragglers. They will be gone in less than a week it seems.

Latest my wife tells me was 9/17 in the 20 years she has kept track of. [never knew she was keeping track on old calendars]

well they finally left. the feeder will stay out for the rest of the week. i don't keep track of them, but they usually go the 2nd week of september.

I expect they are now all gone. It was in the high 40's overnight. They get the hint real very quickly and head south.

No way to determine where they came from, but the locals were joined by four strangers at first light this morning. I've never seriously studied them but it seems the visitors are early this year.
Pecking order at the feeders is disrupted but everyone got turns.

Our residents are gone and we have had a few migrants stop by for a feed. But the feeder activity is definitely down to one or two a day. They usually show up in May and are gone by the second week of September. The feeders will stay up until empty or the second or third week of October for the stragglers.

They are consuming nectar in the feeder very quickly here in S. Wisco and I suspect they are fixing to head south any minute, although they often stay until pert near OCT 1st.
We enjoy watching them and listening to them twitter around.

Well if your bees are making the trip all the way from Texas, mine must be some great honey sweets, or you need to feed them more. Ha Ha
I do love honey, but even though it's not as bad as other sweets, us diabetics have to avoid it.(most of the time)
BTW I still have 2 pairs at the feeder every day and an occasional traveller.

Had one still around yesterday morning, but didn't see any today. Getting colder in the morning the last few days, supposed to be around 41 in the morning. Orderly Feeding??? Not around here it wasn't. Might be six stations on one feeder and only one bird there, but the next one wanted where the one bird was and tussle ensued. Saw two feeding from one station one time, never seen that before.

Ours have been gone since my last post on 9/12. Wife took in the feeders to clean and put away till next spring.

We are putting out the black oil seeds later today in the feeders for the winter crew of nut hatches, chickadees and such.

That should fatten up the bears for winter, too! Good luck with that!

We have lost a few feeders to the bears too. But we have many birds and that makes it worthwhile.
