Before I made my 223 dies I didn't have a way to make a core so I made a core extruder. Using the lee 200 gr round nose 30 cal to push through the extruder I get 3 cores out of one. I tried making one using a 300 gr cast 44 boolit but it was too much pressure for my rock chucker press. The 30 cal is a lot easier on my press and me. So for those who don't have a mold this is a good alternative. A guy could probably make one using a drill press and a grade 8 bolt. Hope this helps any one who is wanting to make cores for a 223 bullet.175972175973175974

That is a nice simple solution to core making.
I have made .187 cores from .429 bullets but have decided a mold is the way to go, I have a BT Sniper .250 dia. mold, it is good for mid weight .30 cal cores. Eleven cavities, that mold makes the process fast.
Now in the process of making a mold to make .187 cores long enough for 110 grain 6mm bullets.

yes a core mold is the way to go. It would speed things up for sure. I made a mold for my 30 cal cores and it works pretty good. I'm hopping I get a mini mill from Santa but not going to hold my breath. Once I get a mill it will make mold making a lot easier. I have a milling attachment for my lathe but it is not very ridged and really time consuming to use.

I made my .25 core mold with a parabolic drill and .22 cal six cavity mold adding 5 more holes making it an eleven cavity. The parabolic drill makes a very smooth hole ( in aluminum ) with some WD 40. My plastic drill gage broke on the last hole and it went all the way through. Just curious too about your extrusion die.
