The serial number is 23890. The 2 isn't very clear, but I'm pretty sure that it is a 2. Thanks for any help.

That's like offering caviar to a Redneck girl! Maybe offer the 922 a box of Winchester wildcats and half a box of thunderbolts.

It is pre-1940, or so I believe. I have read that H&R started lettering and numbering their guns in 1940 A-00001 or so changeing to B prefix in 1941 and so on for 26 years when they went to AA prefixes and continued until they went out of business.
