My newest attempt at making grips. This is on my .41 mag Bisley Hunter. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, some type of rosewood I think.

Very nice. The best thing about making your own grips is customizing their "feel" to your specific hands. It ain't rocket science, but it sure isn't easy, either. And it's always amazing to me how just a few thousandths CAN make a big difference in how they feel. Great job!

Yes I did. They're the only three I've made so far. I have a couple more guns that could use new grips, then I don't know whether I'll make any more.

Hey I'm curious where do you come across the wood types you use? I have been making some and need 2or3 more but haven't found suitable wood already used maple, orange Osage. I try online and eBay but seems like the peices sold for knife handles Are always small.

Very Nice Work!

Try somewhere like Woodworkers Source. You can buy off cuts from them and then cut down to the size you need.

If you live near a Woodcraft store, they often have exotic turning blanks that might work well for grips. Sometimes they have a bargain bin.

Hm, think I'll have to look into that. I know there's someone not to farfrom here who sells turning blanks on ebay. Might just have to email or call and see bout stopping by.

I have been using mahogany. Bought a big plank of the 8/4 I guess they call it, for building guitars. Whats left over gets used for this and that, and makes nice grips.
