I am currently loading reduced loads for my CVA Elite 30-06 rifle. I am loading 16.5 Gr. of Unique Powder behind a LEE 170 Gr. FN GC cast bullet. A velocity of approx.: 1800 FPS. I am able to keep it in a 1 1/2 inch group at 100 yds. Will this load be good for deer hunting here in Oklahoma where our deer are in the 100 lb. range? 100 yard shots are considered a long shot.

Looks to be good according to the Lyman cast manual.
I go 1650 in my 308 winchester.
#2 alloy, lee 170 flat nose checked.
I'll never see a 100 yard shot on the rec property.

Should work fine.

Sounds like a 30-30 to me. Happy hunting to a fellow Okie!

That's the same load I am using to shoot a steel gong at 100 yards and it kills that every time haha!

I've taken big mule deer with a similar load that was much slower. Mine were about 1300 fps, and took a 200 lb. mule deer at 140 yds with ease.

Shoot a gallon jug of water as close to center as possible with that boolit and then file a 0.25" or so flat on one and then shoot a jug with the flat nose.

See if you notice any differences.

Hopefully if it seems worth it, you can get an accurate load with the flat nosed boolit.

Considering my lack of experience on live game compared to those here I'm guessing the Lee RN will accomplish your goal.

But now when it comes to milk jugs filled with water . . . .
