I am the happy owner of several NOE molds and have been looking hard at Al's 454-255-SWC RG2. I'm wondering if this would be a good jack-of-all-trades boolit in my 1911 45acp; Vaquero 45 Colt; as well as my Uberti 1866 45 Colt. I'm thinking the HP version, at 238grains, would be a decent 45acp round. Also thinking the grease groove has enough volume to keep my 24" Uberti barrel from fouling out. And, of course, this Keith-inspired design should be the bee's knees in 45 Colt revolvers. As far as cons, not sure whether the SWC profile would feed well in the Uberti, or the 1911, for that matter. Anyone familiar with the relative merits of this design with respect to these scenarios?

I did not have success with the heavier SWC molds that I tried in my 45 acp's, nor have SWC's been amazing success stories in my Lever guns. I think life would treat you more kindly if you went with the NOE 454-265 WFN RG2, or perhaps the 454-255 RF RG2.http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/images/N.O.E._Bullet_Moulds_452_230Gr._RF_HP_232_gr_Sketc h.Jpg http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/images/N.O.E._Bullet_Moulds_454_242Gr._RF_HP_242_gr_Sketc h.Jpg

Its what I use, works great in my 45 colts, and my ACP's.

Sometimes we ask a mold to do too much. I would look for fit in the rifle, hope for fit in the revolver and get another mold for acp.

Rintinglen: What does the "W" stand for in WFN? Also, does that longer nose profile stay within oal restrictions for the Vaquero and Uberti 1866?

WFN= Wide Flat Nose.

^^what he said. Generally, a WFN design will have a meplat between 60 and 75 percent as large as the boolit diameter..

A 230-240 grain round nose, with big hollow to make it a flat point geometry, with front driving band improved to resemble a SWC, big lube groove and gas checked to work as a fouling scraper would be about right. Would work well in lever actions, revolvers, semi-autos. Maybe get fancy and have different designs of pins.

A front band added to this to make a crimp groove would be about right. It would still work perfect in .45ACP and would have the right geometry nose for the lever guns.
Would want a better lube supply though for loading black or 777 in the longer barrel. My brother had trouble with his until he started using the Lee mold with the bigger groove.
