I will be picking up an original deluxe 71 rom a friend who's father had a large collection, complete with bolt peep. What I need is help with a good cast bullet for game in the 250 - 1000 pound range. I know MBW has a 200 and 250 grain bullet but does anyone have experience with them?? Recommend any others, thanks I'll try to remember to post a pic when I pick it up.

Welcome to the forum !

I have no .348 loading information, but would like to mention that you've gotten one of the Holy Grails that levergun folks have long lusted after !

An original Model 71 Deluxe, complete with the factory bolt peep, is about as good as it gets in leverguns.

Hello, Congragulations on your outstanding acquisition. No experience with the 250 gr cast Boolit. However I have shot a lot of 185-200 grain cast loads. Wanting a load that hits to the same point of impact as a jacketed 200 grain Hornady, I have settled on 53 grain of 4831. Velocity is in the high 1800 fps area and the load shoots very well. The Lyman 350447 is a 183 grain gas checked boolit, it looks very good loaded in the case. If you are going to shoot both jacketed and cast, I would recommend going this route. The bolt peep sight is not as amenable to frequent elevation changes as say a Lyman 56 or Williams Fool Proof receiver sight.

PS Never use significantly reduced charges of slow burning powders. Google P. O. Ackley's findings.

Accurate Molds has three designs for the .348. They are the 35-220B, 220-C, 235B, and 250B. All are pretty similar except for shank length.

My dad got the 250B for his true-to-original Browning reproduction 71, and the specs of the blueprint are EXACTLY what our chamber pound cast indicated the gun wanted. We're still in the early stages of load development, but it looks promising - REALLY promising.

I use the RCBS 348-200-FN.

Loaded the RCBS 200 grain boolit also, it shot very well. Have wanted to order the Accurate 235 B that Bigslug mentions above. It's on my short list.

I've got a Mountain Mold that I bought a few years before he went to online design. I misplaced the specs for it and, other than 250 grains weight, I would have to cast a few and measure. They shot pretty good in a Miroku Browning 71. I don't hunt so I haven't done anything further with it.

I've been thinking about contacting him(I don't even remember his name) to see if he has retained any record of my order. Wouldn't be surprised if I got a quick "NO".

I only have two molds--the RCBS 200 grn. and the Accurate 35-220b. Either will shoot to the limits of my ability to see the sights.
I fired exactly 7, 250 grainers old Winchester factory loads They exceed my fun level and my needs.

I had the Accurate 250B and had excellent results with 3031 but that was in the Browning 71. I've never gotten to measure a throat slug for a Winchester 71.
