Anyone with some start level data in the 35 Whelen with 225-250 gr cast using the slow stuff?

I use the wc 860 and wc 872 with a lyman 358315 that are around 200g. With both powders I put 5g of imr 4198 0ver the primer then fill the case with enough of either powder to have a slightly compressed load. This is what I use and not a recommendation for your use.

48.5gr of WC860 fills my 8mm-06 cases to the base of the neck. I use a Herters 170gr Spirepoint Boolit and get approximately 2100fps. It leaves kernels in the barrel after I fire them off though. I've got some 220gr boolits loaded with the same powder loading but I haven't had a chance to test them at the range yet

I have been using WC860 in my .35 Whelen Imp. by filling cases to the neck and seating 250 grain LBT cast boolit. Velocity is right around 2100 fps with excellent accuracy. There are some zombees left in the bore and these will end up in the chamber if you don't extract carefully. You will become familiar with what our member, Buckshot, has deemed the "860-flick." I have not tried to "duplex" WC860 as of yet. I'm not sure I want this slug to go faster as recoil is pretty stout now.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for the replies. I'm pretty much on Curators wavelength when it comes to cartridges bigger than 7.92x57 and 860/870/872. I wanted to confirm being able to 100% fill a 35 Whelen like you can with basically anything smaller.

Bruce, I just can't bring myself to do more than contemplate punching out the 8mm to -06, it just works too well as is. What was your motivation?

A "new" Yugo 8x57 barrel and a spare Brazilian 1908 long action, a ton of 30-06 brass along with the heavier 220gr (my final weight with gas check and lube) Midsouth Karabiner mold just screamed a need to be put together.

And yes, it works very nicely but when I reload for over 30 calibers, this wildcat just joins the line.
