fire formed brass could be best, but sized and expanded brass will get the job done. some folks add a thin neoprene washer around the case, i never saw a need for that. cost is the price of a brass case and about 50 cents for a foot of 7/16" OD neo tubing. the tubing fits in from the head end - just scrunch it in a bit, it'll fit like a glove and be very secure in the brass.

okay....you made a blow tube......?

what's it for?
how do you use it?
is it for a flexible blow gun?

That is a new way of doing it. I always drilled out the primer hole and soldered a piece of 1/4" brass or copper tubing in that, and the tubing fit over it. Your way would allow more breath and easier to blow it.

you stick the case into the 19th century style s/s rifle's chamber and blow - to soften the black powder residue.

i was gonna do the drilling and soldering and whatnot and quickly realized that a 7/16" OD neo tubing is a Perfect snug fit in headless brass, and yes - LOTS more volume of moist breath into the barrel. used it for the first time yesterday and it worked flawlessly for 60 consecutive .45-70 rounds.

I used 3/8 tygon tubing for mine and drilled the case head out for a .357 case to press in Rim is on the inside leave a stem to snugly fit in the tube. I did solder mine but epoxy would work or even the press fit is enough. I have opne tube now with cartridge ends for 38-55, 40-65, 45-70, and 45-90. I can take the cartridge end off and run thru the case polisher to clean with a load of brass even. Draw back is with the hammer spurs on my 40-65 and Hepburn in 45-90 I have to cock the hammer to insert them due to the stems added length. Theres alot of ways to make a blow tube and all work. I put a walnut mouth piece on mine not only for show or looks but BP fouling tastes terrible.

with the head missing from from the case, the shorter length makes it easy to negotiate the chamber and allows only the flexible tubing to poke out. the neo tubing pulls out on my blow tube's case with just a bit of effort and then the case goes into the ultra sonic with the real brass. easy peasy.

I just use various sizes of tubing, the right size will stop at the start of the lands, no brass required.

Right.
7/16" surgical tubing is perfect for a .45 single shot, and no O-ring needed on the tip to keep moisture out of the chamber.

I think I'm using 1/2" for my 50/90, again it catches on the beginning of the rifling so no brass required.
