I have been trying to empty my lee 4/20 through a RCBS 22-55 sp mold for a few casting sessions . I think I am going to give up and poor some ingots to empty it . There is a lot of those little things in a pot when you are poring them 2 at a time , [smilie=s:

My math shows that to be about 2500 bullets (assuming the pot was full). That would be about 3 sessions for me. Doing 2 at a time gets tedious and that's why I only buy 4 cavity molds or larger.

I usually cast down as far as it would go in a casting session then unplug and pick up the pot (gloves, heavy ones, of course) and pour ingots. Lined up the ingots molds and just went from one to the next. since I put them on a table so I wouldn't be bending over with a pot of melted lead in my hands I put a piece of scrap 2x4 under the molds.

for me works like a charm

I think when it cools down this evening I'm going to give it another shot with them little devils , then fill the pot back up with some soft lead and heat up a 230 gr 452 mold that will empty out the pot .

Is that the only mold you have?
Do you need to change the alloy for something else?
Yep.... There are a bunch of those tiny boolits in a full pot.

On the reverse side of that 'bottomless' pot, ya ever notice how quick that powder measure empties when you'r loading them? sumbody outa make a law!

I have the opposite problem ;-)

Alot of them little 55 grainers in a pot and a long session to empty it out. Go to 500-550 grainers and it empties way faster. I know I cast 400-550 grain bullets in 2 cavity moulds and it dosnt take long to empty a 10 pound pot, when I use the little pot. I normally cast from a 100lb pot though.

I get extreme problems like that once in a while. When I was trying to work up a buckshot load with a single cavity Lee .311 for a 3.5" 835, whoa, have to get the backboard out and straighten out the back once in a while. On the other hand, when I use the Lee double cavity 500 S&W 440 gr it don't take no time emptying a 10 lb pot.

 I wanted to swap out the alloy , but between the heat , and work casting has been cut short . I usually cast for handguns so generally a 50/50 mix works in what ever I feel like casting . Maybe I shouldn't have filled the pot all the way up to cast a few little bullets . The good news is this is my only problem . Life is not to bad .

lol I have an opposite problem...I don't like seeing the poor lead pot get hungry so I'll top it off and keep casting. I do have tons of jars of boolits waiting to be stuffed into brass though. I find it relaxing. Can't wait till I can call these house repairs done and get back to my fun stuff.

excellent way to put into words how I feel too. Shooting requires a trip to range, casting, powder coating I can do at home
both are enjoyable to the max
