Royal Scot Powder question

I acquired some Scot - Royal Scot powder.. it was labeled and I confirmed with this site http://www.ilrc.ucf.edu/powders/sample_detail.php?powder_id=420 It seems to have been a shotgun powder .. does anyone have info regarding it's uses , equivalent and or load data source?

it's a fast shotgun powder usable in pistols that normally use powders like bullseye or tightgroup. I think I have some data from back in the day..what calibers are you considering?

I am interested in using it in reduced rifle loads ( like I use Red dot and bullseye) .... but for the purpose of the thread ... 32 SWL..38 ..9...45acp... and I do load shotshell as well

Yes its fast, and comparable to bullseye and red dot in speed.

Be aware there are two Similarly named powders
- Royal Scot and Royal Scot D.
I'd advise using VV N-320, Red Dot or AA #2 as starting data for any caliber. The Royal Scot D is closer to AA#2 where the other is closer to N-320

Been some time since I ran across Royal Scot on a load chart. Considering where it is located in burn speed I'd think using Red Dot data would be a good bet with the usual caveats as the pressure curve might be somewhat different.

Scot Powder Company manual 3rd edition lists Royal Scot as replacing Red Dot and Green Dot for shotgun loads. also replacing Bullseye for pistol loads.

I have scanned the handgun portion of the 3rd edition of the Scot Powder manual. Anyone wanting a copy - PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it. If anyone wants some of the shotgun, let me know what gauge, hull, etc. and I'll scan it for you. The rifle section had no reduced loads with any of the shotgun powders.

Bit of background to Royal Scot... Made in Ayrshire at the Ardeer works (ex ICI)

they also made products for Hodgden if I recall correctly....

when the plant closed a number of workers relocated to another ICI site in Dumfries where I work.... That business was polyester film production... It was taken over by DuPont many years ago... I must make a point of talking to the few guys that remain here about Ardeer and what they can remember.... Meantime, look here....
