I ran across a Marlin 336 RC in 35 Rem, pre microgrove, with a Lyman aperture rear sight on it. It's also been drilled and tapped for a scope. I'd say the finish is about 90-95%, with very strong rifling. Looks to have just a little scabbard wear at the muzzle, fore end and receiver. Basically an all around working rifle, with minor wear. I couldn't say no at 375. I own a few 336 RC's in 30-30.

What I'm looking for is some input on what others have found to be reliable mold(s) for my new acquisition.

I only shot the Saeco 180gr RNFP Gc'ed out of mine. Maybe 20 or so at 1500fps, before I sold it.

Accuracy problems, or just didn't like it?

Try the RCBS or Ranch dog, mine likes either one.

SP3515,
The Lee 200 grainer is apparently dimensioned specifically for the standard .35 Remington chamber.
The bore riding portion of the mold I have matches the barrel of my '52 Marlin right on the money.
Haven't fired a shot through it yet. Still checking it out.

Congratulations, that is one rifle, and for that price I'd say you got a great deal, most 336's I've seen lately go north of $400. The Lee 358-200 is a copy of the RCBS 358-200, which is a great boolit. I recently had a fellow member send a sample of the Lee, but it's been raining to much here to get out and shoot.

Well I picked up a older 200 gr. double cavity Ideal 358315, it has a square lube groove. The person I bought this from says he has had good luck shooting bullets from this mold, He has warned me however, because of the square lube groove it can be a pain in the rear end to cast with. I should have it by the end of the coming week, then the fun/work starts.

It's also been drilled and tapped for a scope.

Except for the waffle-top M-336's, every other .35 Marlin Model 336 was D/T'd for scope mount bases at the factory.

False. I have a smooth top 336 in 35 Remington that is not drilled and tapped.

Mine really likes the RCBS 200 grain. I also have a 336 that's been scratched out to 358 Winchester, and it likes this bullet very well also. The 358 is a micro groove, the 35 Remington is a pre mirco groove.

From '48 till around '55 all 336's were waffle tops, at that point they factory drilled and tapped them for scope use, and the waffle top was dropped at that point. I have never seen one that was smooth and not drill and tapped, what year is that one?

I just picked-up a 336SC in .35 Rem. with a serial# starting with a K..
From what I read over at the Marlin forum that means it was made in 1953..
It has a smooth top and has not been D&T..

Actually, I'm not sure. I don't have the rifle with me right now, as I left most of my guns with my Dad while I am working in Idaho. I may have to call him and get the serial number off of it and look it up.

Waffle top 336's were made from 1948-1953, with 1954 as the first year for the slick top receiver, and 1955 as the first year for factory drilled and tapped frame tops. It's an L prefix made in '54, slick top. Definitely an after market scope job. I took it out this morning and was able to shoot a nice cloverleaf pattern with 200 gr Remington Core Loct ammo at 75 yards with the peep sight. About a 1 1/2 pattern. I went ahead and ordered the RCBS 35-200-FN from Amazon. That'll give me two molds to start with.

My MicroGroove 336 loves the RCBS 35-200 and H4198. Faster than factory ammo, well under 1" at 50 yds. with the cheesy factory iron sights.

I didn't know that, I had a SC from 55 that was drilled and tapped, and if I'm not mistaken it was a waffle top, but I sold it to long ago I can't remember. My memory is not what it used to be!

So what year was my 336SC made?

The serial# starts with a K, it has a slick top (not "waffle top") and it is not D&T..

As far as I'm aware the "Waffle Top" is from '48-'52, none originally drilled, in '53 they were smooth tops, they were NOT drilled, some time in early '54 they started drilling them and all have been since.
My 336RC 32 Special has the "K" prefix, is a SMOOTH top and is NOT drilled.

I have an M sn 1955 that is drilled and tapped and had Ballard rifling. From what I found out 1955 was the transition year
Early 55's were smooth top with Ballard rifling and late 55's were d&t with Ballard rifling. 1956 started with microgroove rifling.
