I agree. Others are also fine, but that Lyman design should work as well as anything for you.

As big as you can get, slug your bore, do a chamber cast on your rifle. How to do both is in stickies.

I use a .312 185 gr gas check design, lee which I have lemented out to .314 and I use a .314 sizer to crimp gas checks.

.308 to .310 probably is not going to cut it unless you have one of the finnish mosin's that have been reworked.

Do pound cast. Size bullets to throat diameter, not barrel groove size. 30 grains of any extruded military rifle powder you have around will work, RL7, 4198, 3031, 4895, 4064, RL15 or Varget.

I went with the NOE 316-299 and have a sizer for .316 and .314.
Both are Lee push thru .314 that I honed one to .316 for the sloppy bored Mosins, and a .303 Longbranch

the hest advice I could offer has been given above, great molds listed, don't over look the lee. slug your bore and a chamber cast is helpful, mosins are like a box of chocolates.....yep you never know what your gonna get.

My unorthodox suggestion is to use a Loverin design* (diameter isn't critical because you're going to paper patch it as per Outpost 75's suggestion), as it has no taper and is easier to wrap a [paper] patch around, especially if you're trying this for the first time.

*E.g., Lyman #311467 or -466

Before my heart problems started acting up I was just starting to experiment with a RCBS 30 - 180 gr. FN. Using ordinary copier paper I wet wrapped the as cast boolet then let them dry. I put some JPW on the wrap and pushed them thru a .313" sizer. I don`t have the powder/charge with me right now to share. The test results I did get were promising out of my `39 `Izzy` arsenal Mosin.Robert

314299 or 316299 from Noe and the lee 185gr. Size is the key they have all preformed well for me.
Be well

I have played with numerous Mosins- Imperial, Soviet and Finn. Since bore and throat dimensions can be all over the place, slugging and preferably chamber or pound casting are highly recommended.

There is a lot of interest in casting for Mosins right now. You are in good company.

Two other bullets that have not been mentioned that I'm working with, 311284 in Finn 'D' throated barrels and 311331 in tight Soviet barrels. Unique and 2400 powders are both quite useful.

9 grains of Unique and 16 grains of 2400 are good starting points.

CE Harris has written some great articles on cast boolit loading and shooting. You might find this one of interest- http://www.milsurpafterhours.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4714
