My Uncle Mikes sling swivel studs will not screw into that big hole.
How will I mount a bipod for shooting deer at 500 yards?

I think I found out what to do:

It is a 25-06 made in 1994 and the bore looks like a "A".
I also have a 1994 7mmRM Browning 1885, very similar and also made in Japan. That has a so so bore but shoots like a custom barrel. I hope this 25-06 shoots as well.

Why would yo want to shoot a deer at 500 yards? Prairie dogs, ground hogs, even coyotes but deer?

The last deer I shot was at 629 yards.
Where I hunt there are no trees and the deer can see a long ways.

If the hole is threaded then a shouldered bushing can be made up. A shoulder .090 thick with a stem to match the threads in the hole. a drilled and tapped hole for the sling stud. Or a stud could be made to fit the existing hole. There are many ways to accomplish this. Another way is the traditional way using a seperate set of cross sticks under the rifle like the old buffalo hunters did.

How did the Indians on the western plains keep from starving? Did they have 600 yard - plus bows.

The Indians wore wolf skins to get into bow range.
That does not work on deer.

The plains Indians killed buffalo from horse back with lances and bows or chased the herd into jumping off a cliff.

The animals have adapted to the max range of danger from whatever weaponry evolves next. At a rendezvous in the 1800's someone made the amazingly long shot on an antelope buck that kept hanging around. It was paced off and documented as all wanted to record the fact that someone shot an animal at the distance of 125 yards.

Ive watched natives use boat paddles to mimic moose antlers to get close.

You might be surprised how close they got just walking on the other side of a horse for cover. Or moving slow and quietly and freezing when the animal looks up. Ive been with in 30-40 feet of deer in a diesel tractor working ground. As long as the tractor doesnt make a sudden change in direction, speed or sound they seem to get used to it and ignore it even being there.
