I have the .390 mold and got reasonable results loading a stack of three in Starline 5 in 1 Blank cases with 5 grains of Bullseye to try as a multi-ball load in my .44-40 Marlin and Ruger Vaquero.

This stuff will be used in the variouse 10 gauge doubles I have . I already tried loads with 0000 Buck (.380") and they did well enough to kill a deer at distances to perhaps 35-40 yards . Kinda my pet hobby killing poor unsuspecting deer at archery range with my handloaded buckshot !

In my 12 gauge doubles I load nothing larger then 0 Buck , in the 16's largest I've gone was #1 and in my 20's I've loaded #2 and #3 as well as shooting some Euro factory #1 buck .

Well I just finished making some 00000 Buck or .395" round balls . They actually mic .398" but we'll see what we've got after I roll them to smooth out the sprue flat .

Loaded some 0000 and 00000 Buck this afternoon . Loaded the 0000 6 in the SP-10 wad and also 8 with the petals removed and a mylar wrap . For the 00000 Buck I loaded 4 of them in the SP-10 wad and 6 with petals removed and a mylar wrap . All were fired at 25 yards off hand . 30 grains SR7625 , 4.3cc's Grex buffer .

I only fired them in my circa 1884 Parker top lever hammer 10 gauge .

I loaded more of both with the mylar wrap to try in my pair of Parker hammerless 10 gauge guns . It seems to have tightened the pattern a bit and added two pellets of each . If it does the same in the two hammerless guns I may try the same thing with 000 and 00 Buck !

I like that 8 pellet load.

the left barrel must have the tighter choke.

Just finished trying 0000 Buck and 00000 Buck with the petlas removed from the SP-10 wad and a .003" mylar wrap in my circa 1889 Parker EH #2 frame 30 10 gauge and my circa 1899 Parker EH #3 frame 32" 10 gauge both at 25 yards and offhand . The results were as positive as those in my Parker 1884 #3 frame 10 gauge hammer gun !

After I cleaned these two guns I pulled out my circa 1890 LC Smith Quality 2 10 gauge . Perhaps tomorrow I'll load a pair of 0000 and a pair of 00000 to try in it . The Smith is chokes a bit less tight perhaps it will show and even better tighter pattern at 25 yards . I think perhaps next week I'll try some patterns at 40 yards .

Loaded enough of the 0000 and 00000 Buck to try my circa 1890 LC SMith Quality 2 30" 10 gauge at 25 and 40 yards . Again only loaded SP-10 wads with the petals removed and a .003" Mylar wrap .

25 yard stuff looks pretty decent , but most of the 40 yard stuff leaves a bit to be desired . I still have a circa 1882 Parker Grade 2 lifter hammer 10 gauge with 30" barrels I might try , but it looks like I have four guns that'll be adequate with my homemade buckshot .

Ok, just loaded a few 12ga with .40 balls. I could fit 4, for a payload of about 400gr, inside a shotcup. I believe the wads I have are about the same as Rem RP12 but are rated to 1 1/8oz. The crimp was not pretty and I used no buffer.

Just for kicks, let's see how it patterns... Not expecting the great results of yours, just an availability of .40 buckshot and curiosity

You might wanna try some buffer with them , just a suggestion . I wanna try some more at 40 yards sometime fairly soon .

The plan for Friday is to cast 200 of these .395" round balls . And perhaps a 100-150 of the .380" round balls as well .

Ended up today making 254 of the 0000 Buck and 256 of the 00000 Buck water quenched from wheel weights . Also rolled them all between a square of aircraft grade aluminum and a square of steel . Perhaps next week I'll try and make 250 or so of both size again .

Well back at the casting thing again !

I want to try and cast 600 more of the 00000/.395" and 800 of the 0000/.380" this week to add to what I already have . What I wanna cast this week will give me enough to load 100 rounds of each for the 10 gauge . And no I do not plan on loading that number when I'm done , but if they're on hand I don't need to worry with doing it later

Well I'm waiting on my pot to melt whats in it and then start casting 0000/.380" balls . I "want" to get 800 of them IE enough for 100 shells . And that should last me for a good long time .

I rolled all of the 600+ 0000 Buck pellets today one at a time . And I'm going to take the 00000 Buck pellets I cast and semi rolled Tuesday back into the shop tomorrow and reroll them all one at a time .

Not really sure if rolling them trying to knock the edges off the sprue cut does any good or not . But in my mind I think it does . I know I was told several times the old muzzle loader guys would roll their round balls between two pieces of glass to try and round them some where the sprue cut was . So at the very least rounding them up a bit shouldn't make them any worse LOL's !
