I did a little experimenting with 2 olde Ensford powders granulations Sunday. The control load is one that is shooting very well in my rifle 44grns of 2f Olde ensforde in starline brass, .o60 napa rubber fiber wad and 2 tracing paper wads with an 335 grn Lyman bullet. The only diffrence was the test load was 1 1/2F olde ensford thrown to the same volumne as the 44 grn charge wieghts volumne, this dropped at 41.5 grns by weight. I just used the belding and mull tube as set for the 44 grn charge, giving the same volumne of powder. Accuracy was on par possibly a little better than the control load. Fouling seemed lighter and easier to manage. The control load averaged 1252 fps and the test load averaged 1175 fps. Not nearly the spread I was anticipating from the slower lower charge. In this case 38-55 i was kind of surprised at this. Next up is to gop to 44 grns of 1 1/2F by weight and test chronograph and see what I get.

very interesting.it will be more interesting to see how the compression effects the same weight.

Try a couple with 46 grains and Winchester primers

Last couple 1000 win std primers I bought I was getting 2-4 duds every 50 rds in the highwall and cpa both. I have a loaded a batch with the 40-64 the same 1 1/2 same volumne as the load for the PP 420 grn baco bullet to see if the velocity drop holds consistant between calibers. My good load in my rifle is 44 grns with the 335 grn lyman. But I shoot 46 of 2f olde ensforde under the 365 grn nasa old west bullet. Im betting at the same weight charge ( not volumne) velocities wouldnt be much diffrent, but the compression will be heavier.

I've been piddling a bit with FFg OE in my 1873 Springfield lately. Just a little compression with a light crimp and it shoots pretty clean. I haven't actually measured the compression but 55grs was zero compression with this case/boolit combo after fireforming. I simply went up to 56grs and headed to the range.
