Remington Rolling Block

I need some help. The patent date is October 22nd 1901. I cannot find a serial number??????? How does one determine what model the rifle is? Is the firing pin floating? This one is frozen. It is a 7mm. I am sure there will be more questions to follow.

Look like this one? It should be a model 1901...unless there's somethin' fishy.

AFAIK...all the Remington Rollers had a floating pin. They're readily available from a number of sources, and I understand fairly easily made as well. Not sure why yours would be frozen....but if you can get it free, it should be pretty easily replaced.

I could be corrected here....many know more than I do, but I think that should be considered the #5 Action.

The hammer is like a #5 1897. The rear sight is different than the rifle in the auction. The firing pin does not move. I am soaking it in Kroil. I will get it free sooner or later.

Serial numbers weren`t put on all firearms until many years later. Some companies did this voluntarily and most didn`t till it was mandated.Robert

Frank, the numbers on Remington military rifle tangs are action lot numbers - not serial numbers. Other stamping's are a single initial. They are an inspector mark at the factory

john, thanks for the heads up regarding the numbers on remington rolling block numbers. What led me to believe that they were serial numbers is that I have a Rem Egyptian action with two different numbers on the tangs. The top one is one number and the bottom is another. Since the lower tangs with trigger guards can be swapped easily I used the top one as the serial number. And just saw your #2 in 32-20 beautiful rifle. Frank

If I remember correctly it was 1968 when serial numbers were mandated. I have a Savage 24 in 20 gauge 22 mag that has no serial number.
