My 30-30 boolit is 187 gr. I use 26 gr of 3031 with it. Work up from there. 3031 is one of the best for it.

Ditto. My hunting load is a 190gr. FN cast bullet over 28gr. 3031, in both .30-30 and .303 Savage, in a bunch of different guns- all Savage M1899's, and a Winchester 54 bolt gun. Zero pressure signs, excellent accuracy, and knocks deer for a loop. Not knowing the condition/dimensions/configuration of your Marlin, I would follow 44man's advice and start at 26 grains though.

Heavy bullets + .30-30/.303 Savage= deadly combination!
