last report
ok range report...

shot 16.5/17/17.5/18 gr of aa9

two six shot groups, 25 yds , rest, 2x scope

16.5 1170 fps...2"

17 1204 fps 1.5"( both targets had 4 shots in about .5")

17.5 1250 fps 1.25"

18 1274 fps 1.2

(my 255 swc at 1340 do less than .75")

i'm going to try some wc 820 ..mine is slower than my aa9, better case fill, and try going slower...1000 fps

as of now the 17 or 17.5 gr of aa9 is fine for my task

now with wc820

17.5 1068 fps 0.848"

17.0 1044 fps 1.066"

16.5 1011 fps 1.9( need to reshoot was holding poorly)

16.0 996 fps over 3"

will re shoot the 16.5, but the 17 at 1044 looks good enough for the task.

Mike, I do all my revolver load testing at 50 yd's. When I get 1" or less I am happy. I told my friend that 25 yd's was a waste of time, he asked why, so I showed him. I took a load that does 3" at 50 and put them in one ragged hole at 25.
I then move to 75 and 100 yd's to see if the groups open too much.
You are missing a lot of fun to see what your gun is really capable of. With the SRH I had (sold it to my friend so I could by a BFR) I was hitting pop cans at 200 yd's from sandbags. I also put 12 out of 12 in a five gallon bucket at 400 meters, shooting from Creedmore position. I will forever miss that gun.
I found that 296 gives the best groups with the SBH and SRH and H110 works best in the RH. I also use standard Fed primers because every time I tested magnum primers my groups tripled in size. Can't explain it. I need mag primers in my .475 and .480. Just one of those things you need to play with.

Mike
Is this the LBT280WFNGC?
Ifin' it is my SBH shot the smallest groups with AA#9 at a charge weight of 18.3Grs.
I don't remember the velocity outa the 5.5" barrel but at 35-40yds. outa my Rossi92 20" carbine it went thru the shoulder knuckle joint on the near side and out the other shoulder with a 2" exit hole of a 1300lb. cow we had break a leg n needed to put down....bet it would be a capable elk load...

DoubleJK, those LBT's are the only style boolit I will hunt with. I make my own molds and kind of copy the LBT's. I found out how effective they are long ago and I see you did too. I would have liked to see that shot. :D

actually this is the flat/plain base...as in non gas check...
since there is no cost to my lead, with this load i'm shooting cheaper powder, less of it with a very reasonabale knockdown figure .
at the end of these 24 shots there was a little powder, but no lead in the bbl..so nice!

the match i shoot is 50yds, smallest taget is about 6", most are 10-12", two handed standing six shots in 30, then 20 then 15 and then 10 seconds.
the big targets are heavy steel and only those that fall count.

since i only shoot this gun in this match i test at 25 and sight in at 50..

i did take to a ipsc revolver match once...lots of fun....

I have to hand it to anyone that can shoot fast AND accurate. I can't and am too old and feeble to start. But I can shoot slow and thats all that counts for me because I am only interested in hunting and getting the best from a gun. My whole life revolves around accuracy and I don't care if the load is fast. Never cared to make a gun shoot top speed if the accuracy wasn't there. Of course if the most accurate load was max, thats OK too. I guess it's from years of IHMSA shooting. Had to drive too far and it got too expensive, so I quit.
There is nothing as much fun as shooting revolvers out to 500 yd's. I would love to be able to hit steel fast but then again, I can with my Mark II. Kind of hard with a 45-70 or .475. I also hate to spin a heavy cylinder fast and bang the locking notches. That 45-70 cylinder weighs as much as some entire guns. I cringe when someone cocks it too fast.
