I have always wanted a 14" contender barrel in 45 win mag. I am working a deal with a guy right now looks like its going to happen, barrel, dies, and 485 brass. My main reason for wanting one has been for deer in Illinois.
1. Anyone else like the 45 win mag?
2. Anyone need some brass?

I have a 45 win mag, but it is a DI (gas) AR15 with a 10.5" barrel and I run it on my sbr lower it is very accurate and a hoot to shoot. I use everything from 160gr copper hp's (0 recoil) to 340gr cast bullets. Pm me if you want to get rid of some brass, I can always use some. I think the 45 win mag is very under rated cartridge and is a great round.

I have one and it is waiting in line for a day at the range.

I always wished for Ruger to offer a mini-14-type in the 45 WM, instead of the 44 Mag version they tried to market. It would be a great companion for those that already use it in handguns (I use it in a couple LAR Grizzlies), and the rimless case makes a lot more sense than the rimmed straight-walls for reliable feeding from their magazines.
I've never seen an AR variant in 45 WM, but I'd love to put a 16"-18" version through a torture test.

In a contender I would be more inclined to a 454 Casull

My brother had a .45 Winchester Magnum in a Wildey automatic pistol. I can say it was very accurate, but not more so than my 8 3/8" S&W 629. Power is really in the same class as the .44 Magnum, nothing gained actually, it's like comparing the 9x23mm Winchester to a .357 Magnum. If that's what you like and want, I think you'll find it accurate and powerful, up to any task you ask of a pistol in the .44 Magnum class, plus being a single shot, you'll be able to use boolits the Wildey self loader can't.

The Contender can't handle the 454 but 45 Colt Ruger-level loads compare favorably to the 45 Win mag.

I have a extra cylinder in .45 Win Mag for my FA 83. I won't go into why except to say that the man I talked to at FA indicated that they still get requests for cylinders in that chambering. I had an extra cylinder in .45ACP so had it rechambered. I'll get around to working up a load for it someday. Brass is available at Starline.

BTW, FA doesn't do .45 Win Mag anymore.

Don't hear of many folks with that combination. I'm guessing that when I get around to working up a load for the .45 Win Mag, that the .454 will be in 4th place as far as usage.

I should have kept my mouth shut, I no little about Contenders but my preference with break action single shot guns is rimmed cartridges. I would second you recommendation for 45 Colt. Thanks for correcting my error, might just have kept someone out of trouble.

GONRA's .45 WinMag caliber AMT Automag IV & L.A.R. Grizzly Win Mag SEMIAUTO pistols
are loads of phun to shoot with handloads.
Be careful - AMT hasa Really Light Trigger pull. Don't let "just anybody" shoot this!

I would have liked a 45 colt also but all you see are 45 410 don't want that so 45 win may will do the trick. And wanting a 14 inch makes it tougher got to take what I can find that is priced reasonably

More so with larger cases than smaller ones, the rim is very over rated in my opinion. I have a lot, and I mean A LOT of Contender and Encore barrels. On the small cases the rim is rather helpful, makes it easier to grab with my sausage fingers. On the large cases (.30-30 head and such) it makes no difference. I have an AMT, Dan Wesson, and T/C chambered in the .45WM so it makes sense to have one cartridge to fill them all. (I have .45 Colt too, but lets ignore that for now). Stiff loads of H110 and AA#9 are both great, other good powders out there, but those 2 tend to rule the roost for full power loads. Depending on how the chamber is cut you may run into issues with the .452" bullets on the heavy side, if so get a .451 bullet sizing die from either Lee or CH4D.

Contact Ron Williams at RMWXTREME.com ron458will@verizon.net he will set you up. I had a 16" 45 WM upper and ran 200gr jacketed bullets @ 1850fps and it was a tack driver. I sold it and got an upper with a 10.5" barrel and it is a hoot to shoot although a tad loud at times with the light fast bullets.

Had this one fall through but found another one hopefully this guy doesn't think his is made of gold. Some people just want new price for used stuff I'm sure some of it is for rare items but there are a few 45 win mag contenders not like some calibers but I know of three right now.

Found a guy has a 45 colt and a 14 inch 45 win mag may buy both:)

Well, if you are wanting to shoot WM in a single shot barrel, you could use .45 Colt and just load to WM levels could you not? The Colt case is .087" longer and in a heavy barrel it will handle WM pressures.

Actually you can load the .45 Colt hotter and heavier than the WM. By the book anyhow. But, when it comes to the T/C you have a lot of leeway in loads provided you don't push the line too hard and be sensible.
