I recently came by a revolver, and need some help identifying what it is, or at least what it shoots.
The best I can do for the description is:
http://www.collectiblefirearms.com/PistolsModern.html#a%20pistols%20Spanish
It is listed as a "Very Nice Spanish Armero Especialistas "ALFA" Revolver
Caliber: 32 Long".
The barrel is marked " la industria orbea eibar"
There are no ctg markings discernible anywhere. The grips might be made of horn or "ebonite". It is in pretty good condition overall, and functions well after a good bath, and some fine tuning.
It appears tofire some sort of 32 cal centerfire, but everything I've tried is too loose/sloppy. 32 S&W long are the least sloppy, but will not engage the extractor star. The entrance to the chambers are about .363" by my caliper. 32-20s will fit pretty close, and are not too long for the cylinder (surprising!). But I know they aren't correct. 32 colts & h&Rs are much too small. The cylinder bores are of the "conventional" type, meaning they have a chamber and throat and are not tapered. I figure I might be able to cobble up some cases from 32-20, but would like to buy some if they are available. I haven't slugged the throats or barrel yet. Still hoping to identify it first. Heck, it might be some sort of an 8mm???
Can y'all help me out?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thanks,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Bug.

You might consider this cartridge -- 8mm lebel revolver cartridge for French m1992 ordnace revolver. Other revolvers made by Bayard and Pieper so Spanish maker not too far fetched.
Dimensions: rim .409, head .355, shoulder/mouth .349, 1.075 long and bullet .323.

If you can come up with other dimensions may be able to narrow it further.

My best guess --

If memory serves alfa revolvers were chambered in both 32 Long and 38 long. I havent heard of an 8mm version but it is possible - what does the bore slug?

I checked the blue book and the only chamberings it lists are .22, .32 S&W, .38 S&W and .44

Does it look like a fixed sight old S&W . Look for a butt mounted lanyard swivel or hole where it may have been removed? If so.--8mm Lebel
I've still got the swivel if you need it.

He didn't say it was an Alfa. He said this was the best description...

The barrel is marked " la industria orbea eibar"

Orbea Hermanos in Eibar, Spain. Well known maker of Smith & Wesson copies, some with mainsprings hand honed to a *mirror* finish.

Not enough info there.

Don't assume a foreign handgun is chambered in an American caliber.

Without a photo that's the best I can do.
