Hey guys. I love the sights on my flintlock, my percussion cap not so much. I like the flat, line em up at 6 oclock and go. My percussion cap renegade had like these, well, here look. Its like a sawyed down V or something.

And I like this

With a rear sight that looks like below, is it possible to change out the sight blade?

if you can find the blade style you like it can be changed BUT, on the left side of the sight at the end of windage screw there's a tiny slotted washer with an even tinier pin through it. it's a bear to take that pin out so you can remove the blade from the top 1/2 of the sight & even more of a bear tryin' to get it back in.

in my non-expert opinion you'd be miles ahead to replace the sight or at least the top 1/2.

Both types of sights Buck Horn & Notch had different front sights also. Something many T/C owners forget. Change out the rear need to change the front to match is a possibility..

5 minutes with a file would have the top sight looking like the bottom sight.

My thought, too.......................... although I'd add a little cold blue to the process. ;)

not sayin' it can't be done but, it'll take more than 5 minutes to file the top of that blade flat then file the square notch in it.

I cant see the sights clear enough to tell, so i will tell you what I have. On one rifle the front sight blade is flat stock with a flat top cut square and the rear sight has a square notch. another rifle has a round bead shape to the blade and a rounded notch to match. 2 different sights from 2 different generations.

Well, had I not just sold my Grey Hawk I would have traded you sights, it had the style sights you prefer. I prefer the sights you currently have on your rifle, the adjustable semi buckhorn style sight with the front bead over the adjustable Patridge style sight with the flat blade. Just personal preference, guess that's what makes us all unique individuals.

T/C also offered a bolt on non adjustable Patridge style rear sight. You simply install the sight and file to fit your sight picture.

I'm proud of ya Wayne. you properly called it a Patridge sight instead of the all too often encountered incorrect "Partridge" sight.

T/C Hawkin & Renegade had same screw pattern. I have several of them. When the T/Cs were
the number 1 ML used for deer in Ohio , a lot of guys wanted better sights, Marbels made a
flat bottom sight, that could be fitted with different sight blades. Similar to blades in Williams
Guide sight series. The Seneca, Cherokee had different sight screw spacing. It is a lot easier just
to change the whole sight, in most cases not necessary to change front if back sight is T/C also.
with Marbel rear, I was putting a Marbel Sherd Bead on front.

later Hawkens & most other T/C guns had the same 5/8ths hole spacin' for the rear sight. early Hawkens had holes spaced about 1 & 1/8th or so.

Usually spell check helps me out. This is one of those rare occasions I had to correct spell check, it kept spelling it with an R and I kept deleting it...stupid spell check [smilie=l:

I was originally thinking attacking it with a file but if I can avoid that route I'd like to.
I didn't even think of aftermarket like a marbles sight.
Learnin new thinga everyday. Didn't know it was called a patridge, let alone sometimes incorrectly called a partridge. I would have just called it a modified buckhorn.
Turns out I love my flintlock. Was shooting it all weekend. That percussion cap will likely see a little less powder, but I wouldn't mind getting it to match.

Thanks everyone!

First flintlock I shot was a Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle, you could say I fell in love with the first shot. Unfortunately, it was my Uncles and he took it home with him. I had to have a flintlock for myself and the 1st one I came across was a T/C White Mountain. Bought it for my wife so I wouldn't get in trouble...later found a T/C Renegade in 50 cal. Would love to have something flint in .58 cal., there is something to be said for a huge chunk of lead and its effect with a well placed shot.

I will look and see if I have any of the sights your looking for on one of the other T/C's, if I do we can just swap, but don't get your hopes up...I believe they are semi-buckhorn. I will PM you either way.
