MY .256 wm barrel (14") has a one in 10 twist. (As best as I can measure with a tight patch and rod) The previous owner THOUGHT it was 1/14". How heavy would the 10 twist allow me to go compared to a 1/14"? I have some odd ball bullets and boolits left from other guns, NOT enough for a loading project , but for targets at varying distances they could do. I have tried some 70/75 grain boolits with gratifying results. I have some 100 and 115 grain bullets but absolutely zero data for them. I used a Sierra 70 grain Blitz king to head shoot a ground hog at about 80 yards. What a BLOODY mess that made! Two of my manuals say it has a 1/14" twist while 2 others say 1/10".
Thanks for any thoughts /help in advance!

I would just load some heavier bullets and see if they are still making round holes at 100 yards.
I am building a Zeller Martini with a 1 pc. stock and double set of triggers in 256 WM as I speak.
I have a Green Mountain barrel with 1 in 14 twist and hope it will work with 75 gr. bullets.

As far I know all .25 caliber T/C barrels have a 1-10" twist would let you shoot 100-120 bullets tho velocity would'nt be nothing to brag about. What kind of velocities are you getting out of your 14" barrel. My 24" bull is slower than I think it should be but it is extremely accurate. Hopefully I can chrono some new loads with Lil'gun and 2400 and 4227 to see if they go a little faster. I stick with 75 and 87gr. bullets. Mosquitoes are too nasty rite now to be outside unless it's windy.

I haven't chronoed the thing YET. I want to get an accurate load for it first. I'd LIKE to take a deer with it IF it will handle heavier bullets like it does with 70 gr. Sierrra BK and the 75 gr. cast I got from another member here. I am using them as cast with 2 wraps of Teflon tape for lube. That works quite well so far on paper and metal targets. It takes a while for these old fingers to wrap that Teflon. Those bullets must be fast, I shot a spinner at 100 yards and knocked it out of the ground! Surprised me and the guy shooting it with a .36 muzzle loader RIFLE!

I shoot a Hornady 75gr HP at 2300fps. It is a very tough bullet. I have been told it is hunting bullet and not a varminting one. The Hornady 87gr SPP's however are very explosive. They completely shred a 2 liter bottle of water into 3 pieces and bust up into about 20 pieces.

My old 10" Contender barrel shot the 60 & 75 gr. JFP's great, and also did very well with the 87 gr Speers, but those 87's really didn't expand much at that velocity. Overall, I tended to like what the 75 gr. JFP's did. Never shot any cast in it, so can't comment on that, but that was my error!
