Is $11.50 a good price for a pound of tin?

Many thanks.

That sounds about right for the current "market " price. I have seen higher on line.

I bought over 450# of it for a dollar/# over a year ago! Even was cast in 1# (actually 12 oz) sized SAECO mold ingots!

It would depend on how much you need it and what form it's in.That price is a little more than some and less than others. Around here, hallmarked pewter has averaged just under $2.50 per pound. I've found some 50/50 solder for $1.00 per pound. Scrounging will be cheaper for you most of the time.

It's nice to get it in about 2 ounce pieces, from the "Swap and Sell" section, all ready to use.

If it's pure tin, that's a durned good price. If it's tin from Pewter, I'd not pay that much for it.............though I have to admit I've paid higher than that for Pewter.

Yes.....if it is re-melted pewter or solder (you have no way of really knowing without an x-ray shoot), your price mentioned is on the higher side, but not out of reason - depending on how much you want Sn!

If it is foundry ingots of PURE TIN (like a bunch I have) it is much more valuable.

You can get pewter cast into ingots shipped to your door for about $9/lb.

Swapping and selling forum here would save you some as compared to the price you posted, but that would be less than pure tin. However most of the other stuff in pewter is "good" for bullets. Antimony and a touch of copper is pretty common.

Just by chance I stopped at a garage sale because I saw welding torches on a table and picked up a 25 lb roll of 1/8" solid core Stay-Brite Lead Free solder. (SB625). It's rather hard to bend. I'm hoping it has a good tin content, if not I'm only out 20 bucks. Melts at low temp. Anybody knows what this stuff is?

If it is this stuff it is 96% Sn http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/en/Products/Alloys/Soldering/Lead-Free-Solders/stay-brite.aspx so real score at that price. The Ag may end up as dross on top. I don't think it alloys in well and our temps are not hot enough to melt it properly.

I think one member has tin ingots for a good price right now. Melted down from ice buckets. XRF gunned really high tin.
