Coonan 357 mag or 1911 10 mm.

Gun would be open carry woods gun.

I reload .

I have about 3000 bullets for 357 . Copper jacketed projectiles.
Also all 3 or r different bullet types of molds . And 2 sets of dies for 357 .

But 10 mm hold 3 more rounds per clip.

Also I shotot 45 and love it. But 357 mag in 2in barrel self defense is fine . But to enjoy shooting is to much recall . Will the 10 mm be to much recall to enjoy shooting

Wow, the Conan 357 is no longer made, but you can still get parts for them..All quality, big bucks..More of a collectors gun i think..But, that's what i would choose.
So what if it only holds 7-8 rds, that's enough rds to kill a Bear, alligator, cougar, wild dog, pig. Carry an extra mag, count your shots and do a tactical reload, that's 16 rounds with only racking the slide once.
I'm thinking the Conan would be more controllable, I could be wrong.

I am a fan of the 357 (in round guns) and a decided non fan of the 10 mm, just to set my biases out in front.

The 357 is much more widely available, components are equally readily available, and 3 rounds in a woods gun means piffle. My packing pistol only holds five rounds, but I know how to reload. However, the 357 is limited in boolit weight to about 180 grains, at least if you are going to fit it in a Coonan magazine and the only Coonan I've ever seen fired was not reliable. The rimmed cartridge did not play nice in the magazine.

The 10mm is available in more guns, the reliability is superior, and shoots heavier projectiles. I find the 10 mm recoil more objectionable than that of a 357, but my 357's are all revolvers and have been restocked to suit my fancy. Your experience may not match mine. In limited testing, the Colt Delta Elite That I had did not shoot all that well. Accuracy was 3-5 inches at 25 yards, and in those days I could shoot well enough to know that was not so good. I shot better groups by half with my Sig P220.

I am a bit confused though, I have never seen a 10 round 1911 10 MM pistol. The Colt Delta that I played around with only held 8 IIRC. I think the Glock holds more rounds, but I've never seen one myself.

I too am a non 10mm guy. I had a friend a while back with a Coonan .357. I shot it a bunch. Beautiful shooting and accurate gun. I'd love to have one. With full bore .357 loads, it threw brass about 20 feet to the right and slightly behind the shooter. PITA to recover the fired brass. With some downloading, we were able to overcome this obstacle and drop brass a little closer. I know what my choice would be what with the availability of .357/versus 10mm brass. Always wanted one of the experimental Coonan .256 Win Mags to play with too./beagle

Didn't know Conan had a .357, he doesn't seem like a "gun guy".

Make sure that you are OK with the size and weight of the CONAN, especially if you are going to pack it. I would pick the 10MM due to reliability and parts/aftermarket.

I have a G20, and find the recoil not bad at all. It's getting replaced with a 1911 in 10mm in the future. I'd pick the 10mm over the Coonan. I just prefer 357 in a wheelgun.

I have no experience with a Conan, but if they're anything the size of a Wildey...I'd pass and get the 1911 in 10mm. I've carried a 1911 in a good holster for many miles, and it ain't difficult.

Your 10mm option has many options including 1911 platform, glock, Tanfoglio, Sig. The Coonan is a bit bulky and pricey. A 10mm has plenty of stank to be a woods gun.
