I hit the jackpot.

Stopped by an auto dealer that had told me to come by at the end of the month and I could have his whole month's stash of used wheel weights. Took me about a half hour to go through just half of his barrel only to reclaim about 7 pounds of lead weights. Needless to say, I didn't even waste my time going through the other half. As I pulled off his lot, I looked across the street at a tire store I'd never visited in Oklahoma City. The one in my town, Norman, said they weren't "allowed" to let anyone but a Hazmat Certified recycler pick up their lead. But just on a hunch I stopped. The manager says "I've got a pallet on the back dock, take what you want". Six buckets, 1/2 to 2/3 full of wheel weights. I just finished sorting and ended up with 175# clip-on and 40# stick-on wheel weights. All in one day! What a bonanza! Can't get the grin off my face! :bigsmyl2:

Gonna take'em a large flat of donuts next time. Think I'll go back about the same time next month. (assuming that was a month's supply)

That is indeed a very nice find. The thing that detracts from it though is the increasing number of FE and Zn weights showing up.Robert

Nice Score! Persistence pays off. And for sure don't forget to do something nice for the guy.

I was pretty meticulous in my sorting. In 170# of clip-on WW I only let 4 zinc weights get into the pot...........which were easily skimmed off because I was keeping my melting temp around 620*.

I have one local tire store/garage that normally gives me from 1/4 to 3/4 of a bucket twice a month. I take either donuts or pizza with me when I go, depending on the time of day.
The percentage isn't bad and the guys now load them for me. Yesterday it was 7/8 of a bucket and a slender young lady embarrassed me by throwing them on the truck when I couldn't.
Guess who gets my tire and mechanic business.
