Congrats! Let's see what the finished product looks like. That bench on the back porck really sounds essential, and if you enclose it on a couple of sides and use a little baffeling to reduce noise, she will probably think you have a great idea.

You never have enough room. Seems like things just keep accumulating til you need more.

Shootin out the back door is the best thing I own. The guys I see comming to the range to test a load, not knowing if it works, not knowing nothing about it. I go to the back door, raise my little bench, squeeze three off. If their grouped worth a poop I load some up and go to the range to get serious. If their not I go to the bench thats 8 feet behind me,load three more, hotter cooler, whatever. Try them out the back door. I can do more load developement that way in two hours than my buds that have to drive to the range for every shot can do in a month. Even if your backdoor range can only be a fifty yarder, lets face it. If three go into a dime at that distance theres a very good chance your not wasting your time and fuel to go to the range and see a 10" group at 100. Things just dont work like that

I kinda have a back door range. Its about a 1/2 mile mountain bike ride from my door to the indoor pistol range on campus.

Gee, I'm envious!

I have to drive 4 miles to my little 200 yd BR in the woods on a "road" that's often impassible in the winter...:(

Shooting off a benchrest on the back porch has always been a favorite daydream of mine!

Lucky devils!

Bad idea, Dennis! I spent quite a few hours over at my buddy's house who had such an arrangement (back when I was in CT). He lived close to the Lyman range (Blue Trails). The noise was horrible even a few miles away. Couldn't hear the guns at the house. But, shooting off of his bench next to the back door of his house, his wife made us very aware of the noise. She said she could here it at her office which was half way to the range. She eventually made an deal with him. No nookie until the bench was taken down. ... felix

Lucky for me, my wife and kids are ALL powder burners...heh heh

You see, when picking a mate, ya need to make an interest in the shooting sports a prerequisite BEFORE you think about a marriage license!

The offspring? They get their conditioning in the womb from hearing muzzle blasts....

Worked for me!

My father in law "trained" my wife right, we have a 440 yard range out the back door, and she even shoots with me with "HER" cherried out 10/22 that she loves.
