I work outside every day.

It's 5:30 PM and it's dropped to 103.

Last night it got down to almost 86.

Heat index Thursday was 108.

Good Lawdy Miss Clawdy.

I'm too hot to be this old.

I have no desire to work in those conditions. I kind of dodged a bullet at work. I was scheduled to work at Tesla's Gigafactory in Sparks, NV. I want to see it. But I don't want to work in the desert. You can lie to me all you want about it being a dry heat. 103 is really hot. I'm more comfortable when it's 95 degrees w/ 95% humidity.

A shower came up this afternoon and ran me off my casting in the yard. Actually dropped a 1/4 inch. Temperature dropped from mid-80's to 65 with a south breeze of maybe 5 mph. If only winter here wasn't so cold. Nothing like when I worked in MI, WI, IL, or KS. I liked the time they sent me to FL for 7 wks Jan - Feb. I really like whining about the weather not matter what it is.

103 and dry is a whole lot better than any % of humidity.
I can't stand water dripping down my crack and running down my leg while I'm just standing there.

Ain't that the truth? I have lived in dry and humid areas and there is no comparison!

762- where the heck to you live? Desert SW?

Myrtle Beach, SC. 87% humidity is a dry day.

Secrets to success.

1. Long sleeve Safari shirt from REI.
2. Hat from Columbia.
3. Undershirt from Under Armour.
4. Water from where ever.

It's so hot, tomato blossoms won't set fruit. Chickens won't lay eggs. Yellow jackets still like to sting though.

I'm only 65. Maybe when I'm 80 I can slow down. Usually soaking wet with sweat by 9:30 AM every day.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Ya'll are making Texas sound like heaven. I'll take 100 and low humidity any day. Put on a wide-brimmed wet hat and it feels like air conditioning. Humidity sux, I know I grew up with it and visit too.

Been a hot summer and it isn't over we have been 100+ most all July but humidity 10-12%, I live in the high part of Texas right on top of the caprock.

I can do without the humidity also. Been 100+ around here for a while, we finally got some relief this week. 100 isn't bad, it's when you through the humidity in it turns the heat index to 115+ around here. Talk about sweating boolits, I was casting in that and there's no need to warm your lube up.

The longest year of my life was spent at Fort Gordon GA in the late 50's. How people can live in that heat and humidity is beyond my comprehension.
At least here in NH we only get to 100 degrees just a few days out of the year - if at all. Most of the high summer it is in the 80's with decent humidity.
The winters are a little harsh but hey - just dress properly and all is well.
There is no such thing as bad weather - it is just under dress people.

Weather is indeed great here in NH. I have no complaints, not even concerning the winters. I grew up and lived most of my life in Central Florida and laugh when the guys at work complain about the heat and humidity. I spent my youthful summers on the block pile with my stepfather. He is 70 and still laying blocks every weekday in the hot Florida sun and humidity. Just stand there at 7am and the sweat will flow.

Widespread use of air conditioning in the 50's and 60's caused a mini migration south. It helps to have access to a/c at night to recoup your sanity.

Most houses are now designed for a/c not air flow. Ceiling to floor windows can cool a structure to livable conditions. I think air conditioning has more to with conditioning (removing moisture) than cooling.

762

The main function of air conditioning is to remove the latent load. The cold air is just a byproduct of this process. If you oversize an AC system it will blow plenty of cold air but it won't remove the humidity. It ends up feeling cold and clammy which is uncomfortable. If they aren't sized properly they don't work well. Bigger is not better in this case.

If you want to bore yourself you can study a psychometric chart. Everything you want to know about conditioning air is on the chart.

Anytime it feels like less than walking into a sauna outside it is a "cool day" for us :D. I get drenched in sweat from 30 minutes outside....

I have Central heat and air but it is a lot cheaper to cool one room at a time than the whole house.I stay in the man cave for the most part reloading and not doing anything but pittle around and stay out of the heat.9:15 and 86 degrees high is suppose to be around 95 to 97.

Indeed, we have both as well. That little 6000 LG puts out some mighty cold air and it points right in the kitchen when I'm cooking. Great for cooling off quickly and keeps the central air from running 24/7. Just not enough air pressure for it to get to the farthest corner of the house.

I'm guessing you haven't actually worked in 95/95. 95/60 is bad enough. Us folks in the desert watch the dew point - when the dew point climbs up into the 60's, it becomes uncomfortable outside away from AC. I have seen NEGATIVE dewpoints! One doesn't sweat in 100+ when the dewpoint is really low - the perspiration just sublimes out through the pores, and one MUST remain hydrated, but that's doable. Growing up on the Texas Gulf Coast (Houston), I know what high humidity is like, and Tucson's dry heat beats it to smithereens. 105 with a dew point of 20 is just hot, not awful. 90 with a dew point of 70 is awful.

You couldn't be more wrong. I live in an area where those conditions are typical for the summer. They don't happen every day. But high 80s low 90s w/ humidity above 50% is the norm. I also work in the HVAC trade so I'm outside a good portion of the year. I don't like high heat and no humidity. Dehydration sets in to quickly. I've lived here my whole life so I'm used to it. Not saying it's comfortable but I can deal. Everyone deals w/ weather conditions differently. The desert is not a place I want to live.

I guess you just get used to accepting it.

You are not going to die, you are just uncomfortable. There's a lot worse things.

A/C? Ain't got none. But, here in the mountains of northern New Mexico, we can get by. It got hot this afternoon. Like mid 80's and 20 percent humidity. It is the monsoon season. Then, an afternoon thunderstorm rolled in. Ran me off my backyard casting session. Now 70 deg and dropping with humidity of 74 percent. I don't miss the time I lived in Phoenix.

Your "cold snap" is just a bit warmer than our hottest day of the year.

In January we consider -15f a warm snap.

Another 0.25" rain last night. The two previous nights were 0.75" each. Temperature now at 0742 MDT is 61 deg F. Slight breeze wafting through the house. I have both doors open as well as windows. Hummingbirds at the feeder. Zucchini and cucumber growing in the garden. Deer feeding on the front lawn. I have today off. Life is good.

when in lived in PA (near lake Erie), one February morning I felt a draft at the front door. I looked and looked, couldn't find anything wrong. Finally I figured it out, it was so cold, the cut out in the sheetrock for the light switch plate was letting the cold in. Checked the thermometer outside, it was -27 farenheit. I don't miss winters there at all. Now in live in Tucson, and this is the worst time of the year. Still 100 plus, but when the humidity comes, it isn't fun. But then again, you don't have to shovel heat, heat doesn't impair visibility while driving, doesn't make you slide off the road, etc.
I'm NEVER leaving the southwest.

77 now with an expected high of only 79. This follows three weeks of 90-98 with 70-80% humidity. God does have mercy on us.

Cold snap is over here. It was in the low 80s w/ low humidity for about a week. Humidity rolled back in today and brought the heat w/ it. Can't wait to float down the river on Saturday when the heat index is supposed to be about 108 :D

I just got back from 2 weeks in a camp on atigun last night. It snowed 5 days in a row last week. I even dug out the sat phone and had my wife have a trucer bring my tire chains up (left in a hurry without them) But that took care of the snow and it never snowed after they showed up. lol It rained all but 2 days for the rest of the time, rather have the snow.
