I recently got rid of an ar platform rifle and needless to say I want another rifle. I'd like for it to be cast bullet friendly and a semi automatic would be preferable. I'm strongly considering trying 300 blackout but I'd like to give other possibilities a chance before I go into the build. So I'd like to hear opinions. Primary use will be plinking. Maybe use it if I ever get the chance to shoot competitively home defense and a shtf firearm.

If you want to shoot cast the 300 black out should do a good job. Another option would be an AR10 in 308 or 338 federal

As stated above is a good option for cast bullets in a semi auto . A few more that may fit your needs and work well with cast are the M1 garand ,M14 , ruger mini 30 , sks, AK 47

We love our 300 Blackouts, we have several and they get more use than any other rifle we have. My 300 AR upper has only had cast shot through it.

Since it's just plinking, may I suggest a PCC, pistol caliber carbine.

Brass is cheap and plentiful.
Cast would work wonderfully here.
Economical.
Fun for everyone including recoil sensitive shooters.

A .30-'06 is never a bad choice, and an M1 Garand will digest cast readily if you educate yourself.
