My buddy has a savage 111 in 270, he would like a 243 I know the ease of a savage barrel swap but can't seem to figure out if there is a magazine available for the 111 in 243????? Most I've seen say 11/111 are they the same magazine for both long and short actions ??? Thanks much

There have to be magazines available to use short action (.308 length) cartridges in a Savage .30-06 length action. For decades Savage didn't make an actual short action, even though they made a lot of rifles in the short calibers.

I know for a fact the first 110 FP in .308 that I had was on a long action. I think it is mainly a case of matching the stock and bottom metal to what you have.

I never got into the Savage switch barrel thing, I like my guns to be one caliber and stay that way.

The Savage 111 long action in question is the current gun with a plastic stock? If so, the magazines in those are physically longer than what's used in the 11 short action. Just compared a model 11 in 308 to a model 111 in 30-06. BTW, mine use the same magazines as Axis rifles.

I have a 111 that was a 7 rem mag and right now is. I got a 06 magazine well for those of that size. For the 300 BO I use it single shot. If your buddy needs the smaller mag well you can make it work if creative.
