Portable loading set up ideas

Hey guys and gals,


So I got my light weight press, a RCBS RS-5, see this thread http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?310140-Recommendations-on-a-couple-of-new-presses

And I have been thinking of building a new portable box to tote back and forth to the range. My current box is just that, a box, with the press mounted on top and open on the front side so I can put dies, powder, bullets, and cases underneath. This has worked alright in the past, but I have found a problem in that hauling the set up in the bed of my truck, the press ram attracts all kinds of dirt from the wind kicking up **** from my not so clean bed, LOL. I know, clean your nasty truck.

To solve this problem and allow me to keep my dirty truck bed just the way it is, I have been thinking making a new "box" in a way that will allow me to store the press inside and be able to quickly take it out and mount it to the top of the box to load. I have also pondered the idea of doing something like an old sewing machine table, where the sewing machine folded into the table if that make sense?

Anybody ever done anything like this, have any ideas?

I got a box with my lee turret back in the day - you put the press in it for transport and then you took the press out and with some wing nuts you secured it to the partially open box to function as the base - get an ammo can for your dies etc.

I remember seeing some of those, nifty idea Lee had there.

I'm mainly looking for something to play with. I love coming up with out of the box ideas, LOL.

I used to live in an area where I could do something like that, but where I live now it's park and walk to the range.

For years we lived in apartments or the house had no place to permanently mount my RCBS Jr3 and dies and RCBS 505 scale and RCBS powder measure. I found an old salesman's carry case and bought some hard foam, made cut outs and stored my stuff in that box. Got it out and clamped it to the dining room table, towel under the press and a board under the table to protect the table, when I needed to reload. Components were stored separately.

I had a place where I took the bread/cutting board out of the cabinet and slipped in the reloading board then jammed a 2x4 between the board and the floor - worked great.

If the bench is stable a board and c clamp will work too.

Or even drill and tap a steel plate for press and powder measure like the one on the left. FWIW you don't even need to clamp down an MEC 600 jr.
