View Full Version : 233 to Blackout Trim - What's your setup? Ch4d?

I have a lot of 223 to trim for 300 blackout. Currently I hate the process which requires handling each piece of brass several times: mini chop saw, then size, then trim, then prime, powder and seat. There a step of cleaning too in there somewhere.

I have an LNL Progressive so mounting a powered trimmer won't work to trim from 223 to blackout. The press body is too thick and all die makers have the window low to brass shavings wont exit.

I can use my single stage and a shell extension. Id still have to handle each piece of brass but at least it's cutting and sizing at the same time.

Those that do trim with a Dillon or Titan trimmer, how's the ch4d trim die?

The process is robust as is. Maybe you just need to break it up so it doesn't feel so tedious? I'd make the conversion of the brass it's own goal. Chopsaw to length and form it on your single stage. From there it's just typical rifle brass handling. Trim, prime, powder and seat. Not a big deal. One thing that might help you is the jig for cutting the brass on the chop saw. It works great.

This is is the second best method I have built for cutting the cases.

I don't have video of the current machine though.

I size and final trim with a Dillon trimmer, GSI die and tool head (left) on one of my 650's but you are correct in that will not work on an LNL.

Then put the cases back into the collator swap tool heads and fill the primer tube and load. Won't touch a case until it loaded if you don't want to.

My mini chop saw did not last long and I had to figure out a different method of cutting the brass. I make 221 Fireball from 223 but the same basic set up will work for the 300 ACC. Here is the link.
