Haven't see one like this before. Written on the box 44 slug for swedging.

Yep, looks like a core mold for swaging....but just a guess.

Somebody drilled out a .22 caliber cavity so he could cast slugs for his Swage-O-Matic. There was a time when home-swaged half-jacket pistol bullets were the coming thing. Now they're just a historical footnote, and the mould would be more desirable in its original shape.

if it's about .400 in diameter it would be for a half jacket core.
if it's closer to .420 it would be swaged naked then lube grooves applied, or possibly a hollow base bumped in the bottom and used for target work in the 44 special/American/Russian.

apparently historical footnotes abound at my place cause I still do this here.
heck I just got a mold to pour through zinc washers that I then squish into a SWC shape.
boolits get a whole lot more accurate when you squeeze the air out of them and uniform their weights and shapes.

The numbers are your key. There may even be a link here to look them up.

This page has a huge pictoral directory of Lyman/Ideal designs and lists weight(s) for each. There are a few it doesn't seem to have, but it has most.

A friend of mine has a .45 RN mold that has a second cavity just like the "slug" mold on the bottom. I always wondered what that was for.

The Lyman core molds I have are adjustable for length.

Diameter of the mold measures .380.

it would drop right in a half jacket or even a 40 S&W case to make a 44 mag bullet.
if the weight is in the 180gr range in a 40 case it would come out near 240grs and take a hollow point pretty well.
in a lighter half jacket the 180 would come near 200, if it weighed more/less the final weight would come up also.
it might slide in a 3/4 jacket and get a round nose in the point form die which would make a pretty good bullet for the 44 auto-mag round.
or for the 44 mag desert eagle.
