If the preliminary reports are true, a truck has been used by a terrorist the murder dozens of people celebrating Bastille Day in France.

Condolences to people of that country.

I would have thought this was apparent but,

I would expect that the next thing we will hear is that vehicles will be heavily regulated, taxed and require licensing to own.

Too late, they already are. The French are about to begin paying for their generosity and liberal attitudes...

Just the elites in DC especially The Democrats. Wonder how Hillary's pledge to double Obama's "refugee" invasion will play this summer?

Frankly, if there are not more acts of terrorism, people will never wake up. Regrettably, many more innocents will die and be maimed.

Assault truck.... Weapon of war..... must keep them out of the hands of those who would do us harm. Makes the arguments against firearms all the more vapid.

Honestly I have been expecting the same thing or worse here, 80,000 pounds of truck, no matter what it is loaded with is a weapon of mass destruction that you can't possibly be prepared for. Couple that with the sheer numbers of foreign drivers we have running our interstates, it is eventually inevitable.

Conflicting accounts of the deaths and injuries emerged from multiple sources after the episode, with many reporting high numbers of casualties. The sub-prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Sébastien Humbert, told the French network BFMTV: “There are several dozen dead. The total is very high, thirty dead. Maybe 100 wounded. There was a truck that drove into the crowd, over a very long distance. There were shots. The driver was shot. This is on a big scale.”

Several witnesses spoke on iTele, a French television station. A man who gave his name as Michel, working at the Voilier Plage restaurant in front of the Promenade des Anglais, said that around 10:30 pm a large white truck drove into a crowd that had gathered near the beach to watch Bastille Day fireworks, apparently killing dozens of people. “A huge number of people started running, then there was a lot of gunfire,” he said. The police arrived on the scene and engaged in a shootout with the two occupants of the truck.

Another witness who owns a restaurant nearby, whom iTele did not identify, said that when the truck plowed into the crowd, it “crushed everyone in its path.” Then two men got out of the truck “and started shooting into the crowd, about 50 shots,” the witness said.
8COMMENTSFrench television showed footage of a panicked crowd running from the scene. On Twitter, witnesses posted grim photos of bodies lying in a pile on the asphalt.

The Prefecture of Police in Nice said that the driver had been neutralized.

It's all at everyone's fingertips. If you are not immersed in a 10th century culture it's no problem.

If you just want everyone to die that does not believe as you do do then there is plenty of opportunity.

Propane tanks, ecol i, gasoline, vehicles, chlorine, rat poison, the list is endless.

Protect yourself and the ones you love. It's all you can do.

Couldn't have been muslims. Since all muslims assure us that islam is a "religion of peace"

How about, a cult of violence and oppression.

Sarcasm followed by reality.

Open borders that leak anyone and the Muslims with guns while the sheeple can't protect themselves. The only solution is to close the borders and have check points. We need to do it here because it is going to happen more here too.
Sadly a gun is no use with a truck, plane or bomb.
Why are we letting those people in here?

A gun is no use against such big and heavy objects but you can disable the operator to reduce the damage...

Like written before be prepared and take care of your loved ones...

Fox news confirmed 73 dead.

This morning's UK Telegraph revises stats:

Nice terror attack: Truck driver who killed 84, including 10 children, named as 'loner' French-Tunisian criminal who 'became depressed' when wife left him. Grenades and weapons were found inside a lorry used to mow down dozens of revellers gathered for a Bastille Day fireworks display.

Latest reports confirm 84 killed, 10 of whom were children, 2 Americans among the dead, 18 remain in critical condition and dozens injured after a truck ploughed into a crowd in what is now being called a terrorist attack in the French city of Nice.

Everything we know so far on Friday morning about Nice attack

Who are the victims of the atrocity that include at least 10 children?

Tunisian-born Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old delivery driver described as a "weird loner" who "became depressed" when his wife left him, was reported to be a French passport holder who lived in the Riviera city and was regularly in trouble with the law.

At least 10 children are among the dead following the "cowardly and barbaric" atrocity that left at least one British national among the many injured. Officials feared the death toll will rise, as dramatic footage emerged of the mass killer being shot dead by police in the cab of his truck.

As hundreds remained in hospital - including 18 fighting for their lives in intensive care - investigators have been searching the home of Bouhlel in the Abattoirs area of Nice and carried out a controlled explosion on a white box van nearby.

Investigating sources said Bouhlel's last appearance in a criminal court was as recently as March, when he was found guilty of violent contact. Despite this, he had no known links with terrorism and was not under surveillance. After being stopped by armed police, who fired bullets into the lorry’s windscreen, the so far unnamed man exchanged fire with officers using a 7.65 pistol, before being shot dead.

An investigating source said: "An operation is currently underway at the dead suspect’s home in Nice. It is being raided by officers."

"He was known to the police for violence, and using weapons, but had no direct links with terrorism," said an investigating source. "His identity car was found in the lorry. He had French and Tunisian nationality."

A search of the vehicle uncovered a pistol, a larger gun, and a number of fake weapons and grenades.

The fact that the killer was known to the authorities will be of grave concern to those trying to prevent terrorist attacks in France.

A recent Paris parliamentary investigation into last year’s attacks identified multiple failings by France’s intelligence agencies.

New Prime Minister Theresa May said Britain must redouble its efforts to defeat "brutal" terrorist "murderers" after the "horrifying" attack, as she called a meeting of senior officials in the Government's emergency Cobra committee.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls tweeted: "The city of Nice has been hit by terrorism on the day of our national holiday. Immense pain, the country is in mourning. The French will face it."

President Francois Hollande meanwhile spoke of a "monstrosity", and said soldiers would be deployed to support gendarmes and police, particularly at the country’s borders.

Just evidence that licensing and registration fail to stop criminals. The truck was registered, the driver was licensed. They still committed the horrific act

With a little bit of thought, nutjobs with improvised weapons can kill a lot more people than with firearms.

There are plenty of gun owners in France, from memory the main restriction is on military chamberings.

I have to wonder if some of these individuals in the recent attacks aren't being made out to be more than they really are. The Orlando shooter pledged allegiance to ISIS and Al Queda, groups that despise each other. I have heard some reports that the Nice truck killer was a wife beating *** with no real ideological affiliation. Could individuals that are just generally wastes of skin be being made out to be terrorists? I am reminded of Lee Harvey Oswald, so many people could not get their mind around the fact that a little man with a mail order rifle ended Camelot. The Russians basically threw him out of the Soviet Union so he wouldn't commit suicide and give the US a propaganda coup. I saw an interview with Oswald's brother who was asked about his communist beliefs. The brother said in so many words that Lee was a communist because the US was not a communist country and if he had been in a communist country he would have been something else.

It seems the little people will say or do horrible things and claim affiliations to get the attention they feel they deserve. It would certainly explain why the truck driver was not on French intelligence services radar. Just some thoughts

Isis amd alqueda are constantly calling for muslims to attack and kill, so the way I look at any fruitcake can pledge allegiance to them and commit his very own terrorist attack, even if he has never spoken to a real member at all.

The nice madman so far as I have read they have found no connections to any terrorist orginations, could have just lost it, could just have waged jihad on his on, could have forgotten to pledge his allegiance, or didn't know how. What he was, was well known to police, my thoughts is since he was not a citizen, and a known trouble maker, they should have deported him when he started running afoul of the law.

Hard to condemn France for that though, as we will let them stay law abiding or not too.

You can own guns in France. You just have to be a member of a shooting club and go though the numerous hoops required to own one. It takes months...
