I recently got a set of Lee carbide .38 S&W dies. I noticed last night that the sizing/decapping die is marked .38 Auto. I emailed Lee, and they said that the .38 S&W uses the .38 Auto sizing die. Is this correct? From what I've read, neck diameter for .38 S&W is .3855, and .38 Auto is .384. Does this sound Kosher?
I was seeming to have a little trouble with the case hanging up in the expander/powder die. Just a coincidence?

..............No it doesn't but there are similar occurances like using a 375 Winchester seater (I think it was) in the 38-55 die set, or supplying the same shellholder used for 30-'06, 7x57, 8x57, 308 (or your std Mauser rim) with the 7.65x53 Arg. It's not right and can cause problems.

This is what my Lee 38 S&W sized the OD of Starline brass to. I followed 9.3x62AL's advise and went with a set of Makarov dies.

Just today I was thinking of loading some 38 S&W on the Dillon. I just happened to mike the straight shank on the powder thru expander. It miked .354" below the flare, so all you'd get was a flare on the casemouth, and no expansion of the case. SInce I use .363" pure lead slugs in both my Victory models, the boolit see's some sizing of it's own on it's way into the case.

See my thread on the 38 S&W and sizing issues at: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=25570
