Loades up some for my Howa bolt 308 using the 10% less than BLC2 as a start. Started with 40 gr and went to 46. Hodgden says 48 is max and Speer says 44 is max. ANY WAY, WITH A 150GR SPEER SP, THE LOWER CHARGES GROUPED BADLY. wHEN i WENT TO 46 IT ALL CAME TOGETHER. Great group and good close numbers on the pact. It was about 90degrees here today anf the av speed of this load was 2972. That concerns me, seems high byt the book. Any input????
Original question is this, does this powder prefer to be loader at the max??

You don't state the bullet weight in your data. If it was >130gr you are too hot. Velocity only comes with an attendant increase in pressure.

Military Ball using 150.5gr bullets lists 46gr yielding 50,000 PSI and 2750fps.

I have some 846T that I was told to use BL-C2 reduced by 10% as well. it shoots well for me, but I think it's still a bit warmer than that even. I stay at BL-C2 start loads as max loads, this isn't because I got freaky pressure signs, but honestly groups came out pretty well there and I called it a day.

stuff shoots flames though out of an AR-15. people on the line always ask what the heck powder I'm using.

wiljen, I did state that it was a Speer 150gr sp. Thanks for all of thje replies so far. One can always use good accurate info on surplus powder.

in my experience ball powders in rifles seem to work better at the upper end of the pressure range.

I too have noticed it works best on the warm side.

I have had best luck with it using about 1-2 gr off the max for BLC2 and a light bullet. My Brazilian M954 Mauser and Enfield 1917 really do well with a Hornady 110 gr soft point and 50 gr of this stuff.

On the other hand, while I have safely shot it in my M1 Garand, it just didn't 'feel' right even with start loads.

YMMV.
