Talking to my brother, he bought one after cracking night animals with a friend of his. He was holding a mag lite shooting off the bipod with a scope.

2 questions, 1. Would a red dot be better than a scope.
2. Would a tactical light fit the rail with a scope or red dot using a 45 offset rail attachment.

It seems harder to hold the maglite and shoot sitting or prone with the bipod.

Never used a scope till I had a cataract operation and open sites don't work to well anymore.

Hey bill, depends on the distance you will be shooting. Took mine out west for dogs and the red dot was a handicap, took up a lot of target very far out, hard to draw a fine bead with it. even though I used it for rather close shots. Put an old 3x9 on it for the next yr. wow what fun! Cheap laser may fit the bill if leagal in your state. They are very accurate 22's

Hi Bill, I have a charger and like it. I first put a Reddot on it and was content for a while. I am a squirrel hunter, the curiosity got to me and I put a 4x Burriss compact Rifle scope mounted on the barrel. I shoot it with the "ducktail" under my cheekbone, not arms extended like a pistol. I pitched the bipod in a drawer as soon as I got it home and put a sling on it. Can't see the bipod being useful in the woods. It is unbelievably accurate, as in less than 3/4 in at 50 yards off sandbags(with witnesses!)
As to your questions, I assume you are coon hunting, if so I would go with the reddot and see how you like it. A Bushnell firststrike (or something like that ) is inexpensive enough to give a try. I think at the ranges you are talking it will be great. On question 2 , I have no idea, don't even really know what a tactical light is, but would be reluctant to hang anything offset on the scope rail. The aluminum receiver does not offer many threads for strength.. Now you could screw a light mount to the foreend wood,, and line it up. Maybe get a little Fenix and drill a hole straight into the foreend and slide it in,,, Anyhow, lets see some pics when you decide :)

As crowbuster mentioned it will depend on the distance you plan to shoot and your expectations. Mine is on its third scope. The first was a 4x12 Burris compact target in signature rings . Good 1" scope but didn't have enough internal elevation adjustment even using offset inserts. Next was a 3x9 BSA Sweet 22, I really liked the clarity of the optics but it still didn't have enough internal elevation. Currently I have a SWFA SS 10x with moa reticle & knobs on it. The 30mm scope has 120 moa internal adjustment and I have it mounted in signature rings with a - &+ 10 insert plus a piece of plastic credit card under the rear ring insert. That setup will let me shoot to 400 yards pretty easy (wind is the killer). This was its second year shooting in Wyoming.

Still had the BSA on in this pic.

Just as an FYI I recently mounted one of those super bright 20$ led flashlights to my shotgun with a simple clamp. I would think it would work, seemed pretty flexible. Sure love it on my shotgun. Reasonable price also IMO>
