Hi , I am shooting a Glock 27 with a lonewolf barrel , I am using a 175 gr. bullet from a lee mold 401-175-tc . I am sizing it in a lee sizer .401 with the liquid alox lube. I quenched these in water as I poured them ,They seems to be a little harder than some I have used in other cals. I am shooting w231 powder at 5.5 grains. My barrel is leading bad at just after 10 rds. accuracy is gone after about 5-6 rds. Is there a better liquid lube or another lube that I need to try. My load dosen`t seem too hot , Lyman manual says 5.8 max.
I am shooting the same lead and lube in a colt 1911 with very little leading
Any reccomendations? thanks gary

Are you using a factory crimp die?? If you are pull one of your loaded bullets and see if it may be getting sized down to much in the factory crimp die.

Try lubing and firing as dropped from the mould instaed of sizing.

mooman76 is on the right track. Sounds as though your boolitsts are too small. You can slug the bore to find out for sure or just try the unsized boolits ad see if it corrects the problem.

The Lyman data is for using #2 alloy. What alloy are you using? It would be good to know what velocity your boolits are traveling too. What does the barrel slug out at? You are at the top end of the charge rate for that load using Lyman #2. Backing off a little with the powder charge may help.

On Edit. Welcome to the forum. What little that I know about casting, I learned here.

Look at several different sources of data. Your hot for cast out of the .40 cal your pressure is over 30,000 or more I would start over with your work up and start at 4 grs and work up from there and you'll find your accuracy will improve also no leading. Remember the .40 cal is similar to the 9= High pressure(35,000). Very touchy with cast bullets. Using a fast powder is fine just don't do a double charge and work your loads up from a little lower. I'm quessing at 4 grs....Just start much lower than 5.5

I think the previous posts will set you on the right track. Drop your charge down, make sure the boolit isn't distorted by the die, and try it as cast.

Sounds like these guys are right on track. 5.5 grains is way to much powder to start out with. I have been shooting lots of .40 lately through the stock glock barrels, and just ordered a lone wolf barrel to try to push them a little faster out of. Let us know your results.

I worked up that same bullet (not the Tumble Lube one), sized to .401 and it shoots great with 4.8 gr Unique. Overall length is just enough to cover the lube groove and fit into the mag.

Very little leading after 200+ rounds.

INMHO - that Lee sizer may be sizing smaller then .401 - mike a couple of boolits after you size them.

All good info above.

I'm using 4.7 grains of WW-231 with your same boolit in my CZ-75B, sized .401"--zero leading and fine accuracy. I seat the boolit with .020" of boolit sidewall extending above the case mouth. All I do with the taper crimp is turn in the case mouth bell--NOTHING MORE. I hate taper crimp seater dies, and wish there was a regular stock roll crimp seater in 40 S&W/10mm. MUCH easier to turn in the flare with one of those, and zero boolit crush.

I found my boolits to be .401, I then loaded 4.7 grn. W231 powder . load was pretty good with a little leading. I chron. it at 876.55 fps average. with the highest being 900 fps and the lowest being 826 fps in a 9 shot string.
#1 875,#2 894
#3 869, #4 880,#5 895, #6 880, #7 866, #8 826, #9 900,
This is the best I have done so far. thanks gtntn

is this the tumble lube bullet? i use the lee tc bullet with lube grove run through the lyman 450 at 401 in my glock 22 with wilson barrel with 4.9 grains 231 or 5.grains bullseye with no leading.good accurate loads in my gun. Bill
