I recently acquired a lyman mag 20, How long should it take to melt ingots(muffin pan size),an be able to begin casting. I have never used an electric bottom pour before I always used coleman stove and laddle. Thanks (ingots are 100% ww)

Melt time on mine is 20 minutes from a cold start.

I agree. 20 min to1/2 an hour. If starting out with a full pot, I hang a roll of 95/5 solder on the handle, just to be safe, and then go off to wash my moulds up.

I always figure 30 minutes. That way I know nothing is cold! Set your molds on the pot ASAP to get them hot before the first cast.

I think a lot of guys waste another 20 or so minutes getting the molds up to temp if the don't pre heat on the pot!

If you get impatient a little extra heat from a propane torch applied to the top will get ya ready in 10 minutes.

I preheat my molds on a hotplate while warming up the pot.

I also preheat my ingots once I get casting, preheat, preheat, preheat.......

Thanks to all, Mine seemed to take longer than that(a watched pot never boils) this time I will walk away. Thanks again
