Anybody here own and use one of the new Ohaus Triple Balance Beam Scales?

They look good, but before I shell out that kind of cash, I want at least one opinion.

thanks,

Rich

Give us some info on the scale. I don't know which you are talking about. I have a triple beam. It weighs in grams not grains. It would not work for reloading.

This is an excellent 3 poise scale. It is made by Ohaus. I see no reason to pay more.

The triple beams have limited use for reloading. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=OHAUS+triple+beam+balance+scale

The double beam RCBS/Ohaus 304 scale was one of the best balance beams scales made. http://www.rcbs.com/RCBS/media/RCBSMedia/PDFs/Instructions/English%20(EN)/304_Scale_Instructions.pdf

I just did a google search on Ohaus triple beam scale for reloading and got a lot of hits. But, all the beam scales I saw were in grams with .1 gram accuracy. My math ain't good enough to use one for grains of gunpowder...

The Triple Beams I see listed are 2.6 Kilo scales. I have a 2610 I use for lube and the accuracy is 1/10 Gram. The Ohaus single beam I use for powder is accurate to 1/10 Grain or 15+ times more accurate. The OP may not be looking for a powder scale.

Large scales that are too sensitive are subject to every breath of wind. I used an Ohaus Quad that should have been in it's own cabinet with a glass door.

Great choice. I bought one from Dillon in 1992 and it's been my favorite beam scale I have used.

Unfortunately not quite the same scale. - All the recent (4-5 years) Dillon Eliminators I have come across have been made in Mexico, even though they are marked Ohaus and some have had definite "issues".

Is the OP referring to the new RCBS M1000 scale. This is a three poise scale that recently replaced the, now obsolete, RCBS 10/10. The new RCBS M500, a two poise scale, has replaced the 502 and 505.

As I understood the OP, he's looking at a Triple Beam Scale, not triple poise...

Discontinued NOT obsolete! The older scales look better built and whats with 5g increments on the M500.

Glad I got an extra 505!

No doubt about it, the older scales were certainly better made. The M500 is a direct replacement for the RCBS 502 with the simple two poise system, There is no RCBS replacement for the 505.

Just today I have been working on a Dillon Eliminator (Same beam as the 505) this is the first one I've seen made in China, most recent ones have been made in Mexico.

It took me several years to finally get my Ohaus Dial-O-Grain. Granted, I been happy with my 5-10 but an old 10-10 would be just as great. The Dial a Grain is a lot more sensitive and easier to adjust. If you can find one at a good price, get it. The seem to run about 400.00+ in Fbay. I caught mine for 175.00

I got my 304 Dial O Grain for about 200 off of Craigslist ....... Been happy with it. Was thinking about one since I started loading in the mid 70's and finally put it together.

I have loaded with a 505 for all these years and my only problem is that I get the "tenth's" poise off kilter every now and then .... it's particularly disconcerting on small charges ........ I am working the .22 Hornet, 6mm BR and now a .25-20 Win so little shifts make a big difference.

Just before I landed the 304 I also acquired a 510 and once you get the tenths poise set ........ it does not jump like the 505 does.

Best regards
