I just sliced and battered a squash still warm from the garden and deep fried it in my handy dandy Fry Daddy. The batter was cornmeal + salt and pepper. That squash was the most delicious lunch I've had in many moons.

You're already getting Squash out of the Garden? Now tell me this, did you buy plants & set them out or did you plant from seed? Ours, planted from seed, is at about 4-5". I plowed & side dressed it this afternoon. Our Corn will be side dressed & laid by within the next 2 weeks.

Rick, I planted them from wal-mart plants.

I guess that's what we should have done instead of trying to save a few $$$s by planting seed, but a pack of seed sure is a lot cheaper than buying about 20 plants. (our garden is for 2 families)

The plants were in 9-packs and cost $1.97 a pack or ~23 cents each. However, I bought a ~6" cherry tomato plant in a little paper bucket of its own, and that sucker cost $3. . . .

Rick, Clear some space and start your seeds in side about 5-6 weeks before planting. You can get seed through catalogs if your local stores don't yet have them in stock. Gianni

South of Abilene Texas. We've had a bunch of 100 degree weather already. Squash plants trying to burn up already

Our Squash will soon be at the point of feeding the neighborhood:) I picked a big mess this morning, enough to put up a few bags or so my wife says. I also picked about 10 Cucumbers. Corn will be coming in by the 4th or at least some of it will, I have a 2nd patch that isn't doing so well. I think our dry weather hit just as the Nitrogen was starting to work. OH well, there's always next year.
