I've got a Miroku 1895 SRC (one of the 30-06 100 year anniversary editions). How do I remove the saddle ring? I can't find schematics for it anywhere. I assume it's threaded but I dont know that for sure.

They maybe a pressed rivet design, not meant to be removed.

Well... I didnt really want to hear that! I just received a Providence Tool 21 sight and the saddle ring needs to go before I can install the sight. Had my hopes that that I could outsmart them and just turn it 90 degrees like the originals.

If you are determined to get it off and have the right tools, it can be done.

The saddle ring on my Model 1895 Carbine was screwed in - just slide the ring itself so the ring end joints are not near the stud & remove the ring/stud with a 12" crescent wrench.

If the piece that is holding the ring to the action looks like a fence staple then it is the pressed in type.

Well I managed to get it out, it was threaded after all. Still have some of the glue or excess thread locker they used to clean off the receiver but I have the threads pretty well cleaned. Thanks for the help everyone!

Excited for this little project to start taking shape...

Much like the original 1895, no accommodation for receiver or tang sights. Please keep us posted, if my "new" 1895 works out I'll be needing to mount a peep somehow, somewhere.

Are you talking about vintage sights or sights for the Miroku/Winchesters with the tang safeties?
Marbles lists sight base #991025 and screw set #995014 as fitting them.

Mine is just a Providence Tool 21 sight (reproduction of the Lyman 21 that were original).

I like the look of this sight better than the tang sights on the 95's. I thought I could DIY but turns out I'm to chicken to take on the drilling and tapping on this rifle. Something more common wouldnt bother me but I think this one is headed to a 'smith.

I unscrewed the ring out of one I had by putting a brass 3/8" piece of round stock through the
ring and backing it out. Saddle rings aggravate me in woods.

Mine are vintage, 1896 and 1905, IIRC.

I would respectfully suggest plugging the hole left in the receiver wall, with either a purchased headless plug screw or one made from any machine screw that has the appropriate threading.

For odd holes, I don't bother trying to determine the thread size - I just keep trying various screws (hardware store ?) until I find one that will thread in there, then cut off the tip of the threaded shank to the correct length.

Before cutting to length, I file a thin screwdriver slot in the tip & cold blue it.

Jealous. What a gorgeous rifle. And 30-06 in a Lever Gun? Smashing. Enjoy.

I got mine from BACO. I believe it's a copy of the Lyman, new manufacture but looks the same and works the same. The rifle needs a threaded hole for the front bolt. Mine (Mirkou manufacture) did not have that hole.

I fully intend to! Looks horrible with just a gaping hole, not to mention being a dirt funnel.

Another option, instead of the climbin Lyman, is any of the Redfield or similar receiver sights. I had a Lyman put on my old 405 WCF. It worked out well.

Since AFAIK Miroku/Winchesters aren't collectibles, I successfully mounted (D/T) an XS receiver peep sight to the flat/rear top of the bolt on my .405 Model 1895, along with a higher XS White Line front sight blade (which I blacked-out) that they make to replace the issue pinned-in front sight blade.

FWIW, instead of trying the fit the pinhole-less XS sight blade, I opted to simply clamp the new front sight blade in place while I drilled new sight blade with a sacrificial 1/16" drill bit, using the old pin hole as a drilling guide.

I then ground (they're too hard to file) the shank of the sacrificial drill bit, that I used to drill the hole, as the new front sight crosspin (Loc-Tite).
