I was finally able to get to the range with the 1873 50-70 Maynard.Fired 10 rounds at 50yds. with 60gr Fg / 5gr 4759 duplex load 450 gr lyman bullet, all 10 stayed in the black. Recoil was excessive in the light Maynard and I didn't have my shoulder pad with me or I would have tried 100 yds.I'll try again tomorrow. Anyone else here shoot the 50-70 Maynard thick rim?

I shoot a Sharps in 50-70 and feel the recoil is not excessive considering the 65gr charge and 425gr bullet. I will say that I couldn't afford to shoot it if I didn't cast and reload. My God are factory-loaded rounds expensive!

My 1866 trapdoor is very accurate with that load at 100, haven't tried 200 + yet. To hot to go to the range 100+ everyday
