Well I traded for a (year 1950) 300 Savage 99 EG to pair to my (year 1923) 303 Savage 99 C that yall helped me identify earlier.

It shoots good with factory ammo and is comfortable to shoot.
The 300 savage is the longer of the 2 rifles pictured - 24 inches versus 22 inches.

I like these lever actions. :)

Very nice rifles. I'm certain you will enjoy them.

Very nice. Savage 99 are so well made and usually shoot moa with good loads.

.

I actually prefer the straight grip & lightweight config of my 1914 Model 99H .303 to the .300 Savage Model 99EG's I've had.

I have several including an EG like yours. Good shooter and hunting rifle. Very graceful and pints like a dream. Handles cast well too.

I have only shot factory so far in the 300 savage and have liked it from the very start at 25, 50, 100 yards.
I have loaded several different loads, mostly lighter loads, in 303 savage.
I need to duplicate more closely some standard loads for the 303 savage to move my shooting with it closer to the 300 savage.
I have more sight choices on the 303, but I cannot prove they are better by my shooting of various light loads.

You're not gonna match the .300 Savage with the .303. Think of the .303 as a .30-30 loaded slower with a heavier bullet. Original factory load was a 190 grain bullet at 1900 FPS. The RCBS 180 grain FP and about 28-29 grains of 3031 does that.

Handsome brace of rifles you got there. That 300 is a dandy addition. Having two. Now you need three. What caliber are you on the scout fer next?
Some Dixie fellers say: once a guy starts collecting 99s its more addicting than bakery sweets. _:-)

Nice set of guns, more needed of course! I often thought if someone had a 303 sav and did not care of the originality of the gun I believe a 30-30 imp reamer would work. I have an old one(303) I might do it if I find a nicer 303 chambered one sometime.

If I ever get the chance and money at the same time I would like a 250 savage and keeping to the savage rounds.
I have read stories enough to fuel my imagination.

I will try some of those 190 and 180 jacketed loads at factory level you mention.
I have some old brass and I bought 100 pieces of new brass some time back.

I have .308 bullets to load.
I also have .311 bullets to load and no .311 rifle anymore.
I have read many opinions. I could trade them for .308 bullets probably or sell them.
Do any of you shoot .311 loaded at the starting load for either the 303 or 300 rifles?

Leverguns are not addictive. I can quit dragging them home anytime I want to! ;-)

Nice score, HawkEye. Handsome pair of rifles!

Stick with .308 bullets. Don't take a chance on overpressuring such fine old firearms.

Check out this link. It may answer some of your questions. I kind'a think the cast bullets commented/used are simple dropped cast. (not resized)

The .303 Savage is a .308 bore as is the .300 Savage. Don't shoot .311 jacketed bullets in it. For cast, obviously you want them bigger than bore size. I do shoot .311 sized cast through mine and they do fine, but not jacketed.

Very nice brace of Savages. I have a 303 1899A made in 1913 and my dad has a 99EG 300 made in 1953. They are classy leverguns.

When and where is the meeting ;)

Cody, WY. July 8-10. Winchester Arms Collectors' Assn show. This will be my first one but I suspect they don't have a 12 step program. ;-)

Hmmmmm......I think I'm supposed to work in Oregon the following week. Nothing that an early flight and rental car can't fix :)

Another .300 Savage fan here in NE PA. I have a 1956 Savage 99EG, a 1949 Remington 722, a 2003 Remington 700, and 2006 Remington 7600 pump, all in .300 Savage. I load mine to 2700 fps with 150 grain bullets using Hercules Reloder 12. Kills our Pennsylvania Whitetails with authority without a lot of ruined meat. My .300's are as accurate as anything in my safes.

Beautiful pair of levers, Hawkeye! I just this weekend acquired a model 99 in .300 Savage also. I was wondering if you or any of you have a link to get some reliable info on model 99's? I'd like to be able to date mine as well as bbl twist. Thx in advance.

P. S. - I'm feeling the Lever Fever!
