A little confused on the LnL powder through expander (for the LnL powder measure) since there is no 30 cal option. I've always used a Lee die that I bought parts for to make it a through powder/expander, the LnL measure is new to me.

Second question is, since I shoot cast (mostly) in 9mm and 300blk, anyone know if I should get the 357 expander for 9mm since its coated cast (I thought I remembered reading that before)?

H-110 is generally used and has multiple loadings published

So the expander usually used at least for me is the Lyman 30m and used in a separate slot before the powder drop.

Several people here have recommended the Lee .30 Carbine or .30 Luger expander. I use the .30 Carbine drilled out with a 3/8" bit. I don't know if Hornady makes one like it.

So what it comes down to is no option for 30 caliber expander in the powder drop?

I know the OP posted on an LNL, but bear with me please. Dillon recommends the AK powder funnel for 300BO (it's what I use). With 7.62x39 (AK-47) ammo being more common the 300BO, perhaps the Hornady or Lee powder funnel for AK ammo would do?

No, use a std. expander die for the specific cartridge ahead of the powder dispenser and put a sleeve in it to activate the throw without expanding under the drop. Sleeves come with the powder through dispenser kit. It should be addressed in the instructions manual for set up and adjustment...it comes in handy, saving these instructions...if you don't have any call Hornady.
There is an aftermarket belling sleeve available on the net, you'd have to look it up though. A reloader named 'gavintoobe' is on the you tube and demonstrates this...It's for 'belling, not uniform case neck expansion.

Hope this helps a fellow LNL operator...OS OK

In my notes on pg. 13, I said that these sleeves don't expand...I should have written that these 'rifle sleeves' don't...the pistol sleeves #20 do expand.

I wish there were a 30 caliber option!

Expanding rifle cartridges, bottle necks that is...the cartridge body needs to be held firmly and supported as the case neck is expanded. If unsupported you can put an ever so slight angle in the bottleneck or even push the shoulder back and make rounds that are not concentric. The Lyman M die and the Lee universal expansion die/with inserts by NOE address this but some still feel that it can make concentricity suffer still.
I suppose that you could use the carbine .30 cal expander but the concentricity would be a concern for me. It doesn't take too much out of line and unsupported expansion to effect this...even when using all the proper dies when the brass has inconsistencies in neck thickness it will throw the concentricity off, way off to .015", doesn't sound like much but it matters...read up on how benchrest shooters load if you want to see how 'OCD' we can get over our reloads.
I don't go that far but I do like to keep it within .005"...then I figure I've made a pretty good round as far as concentricity is concerned.

I found my 32/20 cowboy die set has a nice expander that works great for the 300bo. I haven't tested concentric it's yet so I'll do that but it seems to work perfects. Ymmv

Have you chatted with anybody at Hornady?

Ya, Hornady and RCBS both only make a 307 and 310

I ran into a similar situation while loading 300BLK on my L'n'L and decided to solve the issue myself. After having issues with seating flat based bullets and cast I fired up the CAD software and designed my own 300BLK PTX for the powder measure.

Also designed a new seating stem for my Hornady 300BLK dies to help with seating VLD profile projectiles as well....

Wouldn't happen to have one of those for sale would you? :drinks::mrgreen:

I am dreading having to expand and use my other spot that would be for my powder-cop. I am new to progressive and am trying to get any extra safety in that I can.
