I have a 1894C marlin, and it's a handy/light rifle. Soooo I'd like to take a 336 in either 35rem (preferred) or 30-30 (easier to find) and cut it down the barrel to make it a bit lighter/handier.... and also put some (dare I say) plastic stocks on it to further reduce the weight....

If the finish is poor, I'd duracote it and have a true all weather/truck/beater rifle, with a bit more a$$ than a 357.

Rifle is yet to be purchased. :-D

My 1894C with scout mount and scope, loaded with 5 rds is 7lbs according to my postal scale, so that is my goal. The lightweight brownings would be nice but, I'd like to keep this a somewhat low-dollar project.

Anyone out there have any thoughts or guidance on this???

I'm sure someone else out there has seen or done this?
