Hey would you guys give a quick prayer for my Lab (Gunner) that is him on my avatar. Took him to the vet this past week and found out he has a thyroid condition. He is having a hard time adjusting to his med. Gunner is only 7. Got him when I was going through a very bad time in my life. He helped me to make it through it. Maybe sounds silly but my wife and he or my life.
Thanks and God Bless

Some may disagree, but I personally see nothing wrong with sending a prayer for faithful friend and companion.I too have gotten through some crappy times because of a dog, some deserve prayer more than humans at times. Just my Olde Man attitude.Prayer Sent !!

There is nothing wrong with praying for pets . They are part of our lives . We have a dog with thyroid problems . Got him on vet pills , a fish oil capsule and a half a Benadryl twice a day . He does well !
I pray for your friend . Thanks for wanting to help him .

Sorry to hear how your dog is doing but pray sent. I know how it is. I feel the same way with my coydogs. I lost one to cancer and he was short of one month being 12 years old and now his brother his age it getting to him now and he is 14 1/2 years old and when he lost his brother ,he was not doing good for some time. and it hurt me when I use to go out and he was thinking we would be going to get his brother at the vet for some time . later on the next year I got another coydog puppy and it took him sometime to adjust . But now they are both friends and now that puppy is now over 2 years old now. I will hate to see the day when i will lose the older one we been through alot. Like I said my prayers out for yours best friend and wife .

I will pray for Gunner to do better. Our dog has a thyroid problem also; the vet prescribed him some pills and fish oil and half a Benadryl twice a day. He seems to be doing better than he was before, but it is hard to tell sometimes because my dad and I think he was born without a brain... I hope and pray that Gunner gets better and that you get to have him around for a long time!

Prayer for Gunner... My lab Misty died from cancer but her system just shut down, no pain. If I was having a bad day pretty soon her head would be in my lap and she would poke me with her nose until I gave in and scratched her ears. She was the smartest lab I have ever seen.

Sorry for your loss too Bayjoe... they are like a 3-5 year old kid and to lose one hurts!

It's tough losing a pet. Wife and I just put down our last dashound. Mollie was at least 19, friend's daughter gave to my wife. Finally lost sight in last eye and couldn't get around well even before that. Was a good pet. Stubborn as any of her breed can be,. But was gentle with anyone who came over. Hope your lab takes a turn for the better.

Just lost my dashound, quick and peaceful. She was 14 and I thought that was good for a dashie !.What made it hurt even more is that she was a gift from my daughter who I lost to Lupas in 2012 .
Have to wonder every time we lose one and say NO MORE DOGS,who we really think we're fooling

God Bless You All. Gunner was a friends dog (really) a puppy when he got him. My friend had liver cancer and on his death bed ask that I take care of Gunner. I had already been looking after him for the 3 mo. while my friend was in the hospital. Gunner was not yet a year old at that time.
Then I suffered a nervous break down not to long after when my Mother passed away. Gunner help me make me it thru that rough time. He is more then a family pet.

They all are if you let them be. When I was a kid we had working dogs and barn cats vs house dogs and pet kitty's. But every working dog wants to be inside with you and every barn cat wants to check out house living.

Continued prayers for Gunner

Thyroid issues are common and can be corrected or lived with, with the correct medication there is no reason Gunner cannot live a full life, he may need some special attention and may also have to change meds from time to time. I have had many tough times that my dogs get me through each one.

At times he does not want to eat, thinking his med may be upsetting his stomach. Hoping it is just a adjusting to it thing. Never met a Lab that did not want to eat. Doc. wants him back in for blood work in 2 weeks.

Picky about eating. Like a little kid, add in a few special treats and he will eat, along with a lot of baby talk. Seems as if he is getting a little spunk back but still sleeps a lot.

Last time we took one of the dogs to the vet for major surgery, his recovery diet was par-boiled chicken and brown rice. We're not fans of feeding grains to our dogs, but par-boiled (rare) chicken seems to work pretty well when they and they're immune system is down. Check with your Veterinarian.
