After missing out a previous revolver I was able to pick up this new to me Ruger Blackhawk chambered in 41 magnum made in the early 80s. It came with a few accessories just to sweeten the deal. Can't wait to take it out to the range

Yep looks good.
i hope you're young. It's gonna take awhile to wear out that BH.
Looks like the start of a real good thing!

I inherited an early 80's one with pearl grips from my mother. It was the one she kept in the kitchen drawer, lol.

That's one of the guns I'd love to put in the safe. Love my .44 Bisley and would like to have a .41 Mag stablemate for it!

I call it the baby .44 and the only reason I never bought one was boolit choice long ago was sad.
I get to shoot one like yours often, great little gun.

I'm more like 8.5 grs of the unique in mine.
it does pretty well with the lyman 210 swc gas check mold but really dotes on the 200gr button nose wad cutter lyman puts out.
I have another mold for it I might get to this summer [kind of a long nosed keith knock off] I want to give it a go on top of some longshot powder.

but my favorite load for the black hawk has to be the hornady xtp on top of some 2400.
that pistol seems to be made for that load.

I've owned a 41 magnum since the late 60's & shot everything from bullfrogs & snakes to big deer & bull elk, its a wonderful caliber. My first was a 4" model 57 S&W, bought used for $100 (I think it was) New they were $165! Started out shooting 210's like everyone else but found a Saeco 230 gr. Keith mould years ago & its been my favorite for a long, long time. I also have a real soft spot for a 250 gr. LBT that shoots great in my 5 1/2" Bisley. Took my last elk with it using 2400. The 230 gr. Keith with 17 grs. of 2400 has shot through lots of big game for almost 50 years.

Very nice addition...a question though...are those reloads that you acquired with the revolver? Have you taken down a sampling of any to see if they are ok?
Just read somewhere where another forum member ended up with another loaders loads that were entirely too powerful.

Just asking...OS OK

Have had one for several years that i bought from a co-worker that decided he wanted a .44 mag. I like mine and have shot several deer down to snakes with it. I also use unique with a 210 gr SWC for everyday load and have shot some 170 to 210 jacketed in it.The 41 is a very good caliber that is often overlooked but will take most any game in US.

Very nice, I've had a few Super Blackhawks, but never a standard Blackhawk. I think I'm missing out on something very good here.

I've found Longshot to be a great goldielocks powder for the 41. Not too slow, not to fast. A great, clean burning, medium velocity powder.

All of my 57s and BH/RH love the 210XTP loaded with 296.

380Auto....that 41mag cartridge is pure addiction (or is for me, anyhow). It takes the top loads and puts the .44mag on notice, it takes the bottom loads and seems to charm the .357mag right out of the park. The first one I acquired was a RH 6" a couple of decades ago at a gun show. Got it for a song and dance, so they say, haven't turned back since!
For some reason it just isn't your cup of tea, send it my way.....I will put it in the stable with some of mine (hopefully they will reproduce!! Hasn't happened yet without money). I can guarantee it will never be lonely or mistreated.

I have the same gun plus a S&W mod 57 both are very accurate. The smith I run 250 grain cast performance bullets with h110 and my ruger a HP 220 grain lyman keith 410459 with unique it my goto deer load. I see in the picture a box of nosler sporting handgun I had a bad experience with them in my 44 on a yearling fawn 45 yards quartering to me bullet pancaked/blew up on the shoulder bone. Luckily it ran toward me and got broadside for another shot no bones on this one. There was nothing but copper and lead shrapnel and shredded meat on the outside of the shoulder no penetration . I've taken this shot with both of my 41's on mature deer and the little cast bullet just plows right on through.
Not a scientific test but I took a sierra, hornady and nosler bullets and but them on my vice and started tapping them with a hammer I found the nosler to be way softer than the other two. I'd compare it to pure lead.
